Trainee Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Advisor

Scope: We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual who will support the HSE team in promoting a positive safety culture across our construction sites, ensuring compliance with health, safety and environmental legislation while gaining practical experience and professional qualifications.
Previous construction experience would be advantageous, however we welcome applications from individuals with a genuine interest in health safety and Environmental who are eager to learn and develop.
Hours: 8:30am – 5:15pm (Mon – Thurs)
8:30am – 4:00pm (Fri)

Report to: Senior HSE Advisor/HSE Director
Location: Various construction sites across North Wales and the North West, with travel to Head Office as required.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conducting regular health, safety and environmental inspections across construction sites.
- Assisting in identifying workplace hazards and environmental risks, ensuring suitable control measures are implemented.
- Monitoring compliance with company policies, procedures and current health, safety and environmental legislation.
- Supporting Site Management teams in maintaining safe systems of work and promoting a positive safety culture.
- Assisting with the review of Risk Assessments, Method Statements (RAMS) and Construction Phase Plans.
- Participating in the investigation of accidents, incidents, near misses and environmental events, helping to identify root causes and monitor the completion of corrective actions.
- Supporting the delivery of site inductions, toolbox talks and health, safety and environmental briefings.
- Monitoring subcontractor compliance with company health, safety and environmental standards.
- Assisting with occupational health initiatives, including health surveillance where applicable.
- Supporting emergency preparedness, including fire safety arrangements and emergency response procedures.
- Assisting with maintaining accurate HSE records, inspections, audits and statutory documentation.
- Promoting positive behaviours and challenging unsafe acts or environmental non-conformances in a professional and constructive manner.
- Supporting the implementation of the company's Environmental Management System (EMS) and sustainability objectives.
- Monitoring environmental controls on site, including waste management, segregation and recycling, pollution prevention, dust suppression, noise and vibration controls, water management and protection of local habitats.
- Assisting with environmental inspections and audits to ensure compliance with environmental legislation, planning conditions, permits and company procedures.
- Supporting the investigation
- of environmental incidents, including pollution events, spillages and environmental complaints.
- Assisting with monitoring site environmental performance, including waste, energy and resource use, and identifying opportunities for continual improvement.
- Helping to promote sustainable construction practices and raise environmental awareness amongst employees and subcontractors.
- Liaising with Site Managers, Contracts Managers, subcontractors and external stakeholders on health, safety and environmental matters.
- Keeping up to date with changes in health, safety and environmental legislation and industry best practice.
- Undertaking any other reasonable duties commensurate with the role as required by the Senior HSE Advisor or HSE Director.
Training and Development:
The successful candidate will receive ongoing support and training, including opportunities to work towards professional qualifications such as:
- NEBOSH General Certificate (if not already achieved)
- NEBOSH Construction Certificate
The successful candidate will have the following skills, experience and attributes:
· Good communication and interpersonal skills.
· Full UK Driving Licence.
· Willingness to travel between construction sites.
· Good organisational skills.
· Confident using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, SharePoint and Outlook).
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
· Positive attitude with a willingness to learn.
· Good attention to detail.
· Ability to build positive working relationships with employees and subcontractors.
