Pastry Chef / Baker
Desserts, Baking, Breads & Homemade Pub Classics
The Winterton Arms is looking for someone with a genuine passion for baking, desserts and breads.
You do not need to be the finished article. We are happy to speak to someone with experience, but we are also interested in someone who has a real love for baking and desserts, a good attitude, and a strong desire to learn, develop and progress their own knowledge.
Food is a huge part of where we are taking the pub, and we want our desserts, baked goods and breads to feel just as considered as the main menu. We are looking for someone who gets excited by proper puddings, fresh bread, seasonal desserts and homemade touches that make guests remember the meal.
This role would suit someone creative, organised and eager to grow within a busy kitchen. The right person will take pride in consistency, presentation and flavour, while being open to training, feedback and learning new skills.
There is real opportunity to help shape the dessert and baking side of the menu, bringing fresh ideas while keeping things achievable, consistent and suitable for a busy pub environment.
The Winterton Arms is a growing business with real opportunity for development. We want future stars who will grow with the business as it expands. You will be part of a strong team with fresh ideas, high standards and a genuine passion for hospitality.
Please note that live-in accommodation is not available for this role. Applicants must be able to reliably travel to and from the pub for their shifts. Due to our location, having access to a car is almost certainly required.
Duties
Prepare and produce desserts, baked goods and breads to a high standard.
Support the development of seasonal desserts, specials and baked items for the menu.
Help create homemade touches that add quality and character to the pub’s food offer.
Work closely with the Head Chef and kitchen team to learn, develop and improve skills.
Maintain consistency in flavour, presentation, portion control and quality.
Keep preparation lists organised and ensure the dessert and baking section is ready for service.
Maintain excellent food hygiene, cleanliness and safety standards.
Monitor stock levels, assist with ordering and minimise waste.
Keep work areas, equipment and storage areas clean, organised and well maintained.
Bring ideas, enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.
Skills and Experience
A genuine passion for baking, desserts and breads.
Some experience in pastry, baking, desserts or a kitchen environment would be helpful, but attitude and willingness to learn are just as important.
A desire to develop your own skills and progress your knowledge.
Good attention to detail and pride in presentation.
Ability to stay organised and work efficiently in a busy kitchen.
Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
Reliable, punctual and able to travel to and from the pub independently.
