MPG Garage Services is a small, friendly, independent garage based in Gosport.
We have built our customer base through word of mouth, repeat customers, recommendations and honest local service. We’re a down-to-earth, realistic workshop with a relaxed family feel, familiar faces and customers who trust us to look after their vehicles properly.
Our reviews and reputation matter to us, so we’re looking for someone who can help us keep that standard. The right person is just as important as the right skillset.
We want someone who can do the job properly, work well with a small team, treat customers and their vehicles with respect, and fit into the general feel of the garage.
The role
We’re looking for a Vehicle Technician / Mechanic to join our workshop team.
The work will include general mechanical repairs, servicing, brakes, suspension, clutches, diagnostics, fault finding and repairs on a variety of everyday cars and light vans.
You don’t need to know everything, but you do need to be capable, practical, honest and willing to get stuck in. A stronger all-round technician would be ideal, but we would also consider someone with solid general mechanical ability who has the right attitude and wants to be part of a good local garage.
We are an independent garage where the work needs to be done correctly, but the atmosphere is realistic, personal and team-focused. We want someone who takes pride in their work and fits well into a small team where customers and reputation genuinely matter.
What you’ll be doing
- Servicing and general maintenance
- Brakes, suspension and steering repairs
- Clutches and general mechanical work
- Diagnostics and fault finding
- Vehicle inspections and checks
- General repairs on a range of makes and models
- Keeping your work area tidy and organised
- Updating the office/workshop team clearly on job progress
- Occasional liaising with customers directly to explain work, faults or vehicle concerns in a clear and approachable way

Skills matter, but attitude and personality matter just as much here.
Essential
- Previous experience as a mechanic / vehicle technician
- Good general mechanical knowledge
- Own tools
- Full UK driving licence
- Ability to work independently and as part of a small team
Desirable but not essential
- Level 2 or Level 3 vehicle qualification
- Diagnostic experience
- Air conditioning experience
- Experience with clutches, timing belts, electrical faults or light vans
Hours
Monday to Friday, 8:30am–5:00pm
30-minute unpaid lunch break
40 paid hours per week
No regular weekends
Pay
£28,000–£35,000 per year depending on experience and ability.
Pay will depend on mechanical experience, ability, attitude and what you can bring to the workshop.
An experienced all-round mechanic / technician would likely be towards the higher end of the range, while someone still developing but with the right attitude may be considered at the lower end.
