At King's College Hospital, our Estates team keeps the vital services that support patient care running around the clock. We're looking for a talented Electrical Building Services Shift Technician to join us in maintaining and optimising critical building systems across our hospital estate.
This role offers a unique blend of planned maintenance, fault-finding, emergency response, and technical problem-solving within a complex healthcare environment. If you're an experienced electrician who enjoys working with advanced building services systems and wants to be part of a team that makes a real impact every day, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.
Join Sodexo and be part of something greater. You belong in a team where you can act with purpose and thrive in your own way.
What You’ll Do:
-
Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM), testing, fault diagnosis, and repair of building services plant and equipment to ensure maximum operational availability.
-
Monitor and control site-wide mechanical, electrical, fire protection, and building management systems (BMS), ensuring safe and efficient building operation.
-
Provide a rapid and effective response to reactive maintenance issues and emergency situations, accurately diagnosing faults and implementing remedial actions.
-
Work closely with specialist contractors and external service providers to minimise disruption and maintain continuity of critical building services.
-
Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety, Permit to Work systems, statutory regulations, and industry best practice standards.
-
Proactively identify potential plant or system failures, escalating issues and recommending corrective actions before operational impact occurs.
-
Participate in a 12-hour rotating shift pattern, including weekends, bank holidays, and providing cover for colleagues where required.
What You Bring:
-
Completed a recognised apprenticeship (or equivalent approved training programme) with City & Guilds / NVQ Level 3 qualification in a relevant engineering or building services discipline.
-
Experience in building services and plant engineering, with strong knowledge of mechanical and/or electrical systems maintenance.
-
Proven maintenance and fault-finding experience, including diagnosing and resolving issues across a range of building services equipment and plant.
-
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with contractors, colleagues, clinicians, and stakeholders at all levels.
-
Health & Safety awareness, including knowledge of safe systems of work, Permit to Work procedures, and compliance with building services regulations.
