We are looking for a reliable, practical and customer-focused Team Leader/Driver to join our removals company in Kendal.
Our work includes household removals, kitchen and appliance deliveries, packing services and house clearances. You will drive our vans, lead the team on jobs and work alongside them to provide a careful, efficient and professional service.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Safely driving large vans
- Leading and working alongside the removals team
- Loading and unloading heavy or awkward furniture, kitchen units, appliances and customers’ belongings
- Protecting customers’ possessions and properties from damage
- Dismantling and rebuilding furniture when required
- Disconnecting and reconnecting appliances where trained and authorised
- Packing and unpacking customers’ belongings
- Completing removals, deliveries and house clearances
- Communicating professionally with customers and business clients
- Completing daily job and vehicle forms using our company app
- Keeping the van and equipment clean, tidy and organised
- Wearing company uniform and being reasonably well presented
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
You should:
- Hold a full UK driving licence with no more than six penalty points
- Be confident driving large vans, preferably with previous experience
- Be physically capable of safely lifting heavy items
- Be reliable, punctual and able to travel to Kendal for early starts
- Provide excellent customer service
- Work well with others and be confident leading a team
- Use your initiative and remain professional when plans change
- Be comfortable completing forms on a smartphone app
- Be flexible about working days and hours
Previous removals experience would be helpful, but we will also consider applicants with transferable skills from delivery work, warehousing, construction, fitting, maintenance or other practical/manual roles.
Good references from previous employers would be a strong advantage.
HOURS
The role may initially provide two to three days of work per week, potentially increasing to five or six days as the workload develops.
Usual weekday hours are approximately 9:00am–5:00pm, but some jobs require much earlier starts or later finishes. Weekend work may also be available or required depending on bookings.
PAY
- Weekdays: £15.00–£17.50 per hour
- Weekends: up to £22.50 per hour
Pay will depend on skills, experience and ability to perform the full Team Leader role.
DRIVING REQUIREMENTS
Due to vehicle-insurance requirements, applicants will normally need to be aged 25 or over. We may consider a younger applicant with a completely clean licence and all the necessary skills, subject to approval by our insurer.
ABOUT THE POSITION
This is a physically demanding, customer-facing role. Reliability is essential because customers are often moving home or expecting deliveries on fixed dates.
A locally based employee may have the opportunity to take a company vehicle home in the future, although this is not guaranteed.
The successful applicant may complete an initial paid trial and probationary period. We are looking for the right person to develop into a permanent, ongoing member of our team.

- Your relevant work and large-van driving experience
- Your driving-licence details and any penalty points or recent claims
