We are looking for a reliable, experienced Bank Ophthalmic Diagnostics Technician to support our ophthalmology clinics during staff leave, busy clinic days and ad hoc consultant sessions.
This role would suit someone local to VISIO who already has strong ophthalmology diagnostics experience and can confidently step into clinic without needing extensive training.
The Role
The Bank Ophthalmic Diagnostics Technician will support consultant ophthalmologists by carrying out accurate ophthalmic diagnostic tests and helping the patient journey run smoothly.
This is a bank role, so we need someone who is already confident using ophthalmic diagnostic equipment and understands the importance of high-quality scans, accurate measurements and good clinic flow.
Mandatory Equipment Experience
Applicants must have hands-on experience using the following equipment:
- Heidelberg Spectralis OCT
- ZEISS Clarus
- ZEISS HFA Visual Field Analyser
- Oculus Pentacam
- ZEISS IOLMaster 700
Please only apply if you have direct experience with these machines or very close equivalent ophthalmic diagnostic experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Welcome patients warmly and explain each test clearly.
- Carry out ophthalmic diagnostic testing accurately and efficiently.
- Perform OCT scans using Heidelberg Spectralis.
- Perform widefield retinal imaging using ZEISS Clarus.
- Perform visual field testing using ZEISS HFA.
- Perform corneal tomography/topography using Oculus Pentacam.
- Perform biometry using ZEISS IOLMaster 700.
- Carry out visual acuity and intraocular pressure checks where required.
- Ensure diagnostic images and measurements are saved correctly.
- Check scan quality before the patient leaves the room.
- Prepare patients for consultant appointments.
- Keep the diagnostic rooms clean, tidy, stocked and ready for use.
- Support smooth clinic flow and communicate clearly with consultants, reception and clinical staff.
- Escalate any concerns appropriately to the consultant or senior team.
- Follow VISIO Health policies, infection control procedures and confidentiality requirements.
- Help create a calm, reassuring and premium experience for every patient.
Essential Requirements
- Previous ophthalmology diagnostics experience.
- Confident experience with Heidelberg Spectralis OCT, ZEISS Clarus, ZEISS HFA, Oculus Pentacam and ZEISS IOLMaster 700.
- Ability to work independently in a busy clinic environment.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Understanding of scan quality and when images need to be repeated.
- Warm, professional and reassuring manner with patients.
- Reliable, punctual and flexible.
- Comfortable working in a private ophthalmology clinic.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to work closely with consultants and the wider clinic team.
Desirable Experience
- Experience in cataract clinics.
- Experience in glaucoma clinics.
- Experience in retina clinics.
- Experience with premium lens cataract pathways.
- Previous private healthcare experience.
- Previous hospital eye service or ophthalmology outpatient experience.
- Experience supporting consultant-led clinics.
Working Pattern
This is a bank role, so hours will vary depending on clinic needs.
We are particularly interested in someone local who may be available for annual leave cover, ad hoc clinic sessions, busy consultant days and occasional short-notice support.
There is no guaranteed minimum number of hours, but we are looking to build a trusted relationship with someone who can become part of the wider VISIO team.
