Smart Building Engineer - Trend/Tridium - Up to £85,000 Per Annum - Remote
Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and highly skilled Smart Building Engineer specializing in Trend and Tridium systems to join our innovative team. Duties
- Develop, implement, and maintain advanced building automation systems utilizing Trend and Tridium platforms to ensure optimal operational efficiency.
- Design scalable system architectures integrating various protocols such as REST APIs, BACnet, Modbus, and OPC UA for reliable data exchange across devices and subsystems.
- Configure and manage network infrastructure including computer networking components like VPNs, firewalls, DHCP, DNS, load balancers, and VLANs to secure and optimize system connectivity.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate cloud services such as AWS and Azure for remote monitoring, data storage (SQL, NoSQL databases like PostgreSQL or MongoDB), and analytics.
- Conduct system administration tasks on Windows, Linux, VMware ESXi, and Kubernetes environments to support virtualization, containerization, and continuous integration/deployment pipelines using tools like Jenkins or Git.
- Develop custom solutions using programming languages including Python, JavaScript, C#, Java, C++, Ruby on Rails, VBA, Shell Scripting (Unix/Linux), and.NET frameworks to enhance system functionalities.
- Perform troubleshooting through debugging techniques on operating systems and applications; implement security measures involving information security protocols like firewalls, VPNs, SSL/TLS; ensure compliance with SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle) standards.
- Create detailed documentation covering system design diagrams (using UML or Simulink), API specifications (REST/SOAP), and configuration manuals; participate in system testing using DevOps practices to ensure high-quality deployments.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in systems engineering with a focus on smart building automation or related fields utilizing Trend or Tridium platforms.
- Strong knowledge of computer networking concepts including VPNs, firewalls, DHCP/DNS management, load balancing techniques, and network security best practices.
- Hands-on experience with cloud services such as AWS or Azure for IoT integrations; familiarity with SQL (MySQL/PostgreSQL/Microsoft SQL Server) and NoSQL databases like MongoDB or Cassandra.
- Proficiency in programming languages including Python, JavaScript, C#, Java; experience with web services (REST/SOAP), APIs development/consumption; knowledge of DevOps tools like Jenkins or Git for CI/CD workflows.
- Deep understanding of operating systems (Windows/Linux), virtualization technologies (VMware ESXi), container orchestration (Kubernetes), and system administration tasks.
- Ability to design scalable solution architectures incorporating microservices architecture principles; experience with service-oriented architecture (SOA) is highly desirable.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a focus on debugging complex issues across diverse platforms; strong documentation skills for technical manuals and system diagrams.
- Relevant certifications such as Cisco CCNA/CCNP or Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect are advantageous.
