Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust are looking to appoint a locum part-time
(7.5 PA) Consultant Paediatrician with an interest in diabetes to provide clinical support to the general paediatric department at Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) Woolwich. The post holder will have responsibility to deliver a general paediatric service and manage a clinical caseload. No NICU cover is expected.
The postholder will provide 1 diabetes a week and 1 general paediatric clinic fortnightly. The postholder will join a team of 17 Consultant Paediatricians covering a wide range of specialities, who cover both the general and neonatal units, as well as providing some cover for the Paediatric Ambulatory Unit. The general paediatricians are currently on call 1 in 8, including weekends.
This is a substantive consultant post in general paediatrics at Lewisham & Greenwich NHS Trust providing clinical support to the general paediatric department. A sub-speciality interest in paediatric diabetes is required. - Together with the other paediatricians, to provide a service for children on the QEH site in acute general paediatrics. This includes all aspects of treatment and relevant management duties for the proper functioning of the department as per the job plan.
- Shared responsibility with the other General Paediatricians for providing 7 day a week cover for the paediatric ambulatory unit on a rota basis. Responsible also for covering colleague’s periods of annual leave and short-term sickness.
- Be responsible for the paediatric diabetes service – specifically running outpatient clinics, reviewing inpatients, giving advice and assisting in service development as required.
- To be aware of and deal with safeguarding issues as required, and manage patients with advice from the safeguarding team.
- Carry out outpatient duties with appropriate administration and patient follow up
- Be aware of and assist in divisional objectives through clinical work e.g. Electronic discharges within 24 hours, DNA rates, infection control
- Standard operating procedure of consultant responsibilities is currently being finalised.
