About the Role
We're looking for an experienced Data Engineer to join our team and take ownership of the data infrastructure powering our platform. You'll design and build the pipelines, warehousing, and governance frameworks that turn raw, high-volume data — including user-generated content — into reliable, actionable insight for product, analytics, and growth teams.
What You'll Do
Data Pipeline Design & Development Build and maintain robust ETL/ELT pipelines, including ingestion of unstructured and semi-structured data (images, user reviews, engagement events).
Data Warehouse & Infrastructure Management Own and evolve our cloud data warehouse/lakehouse environment, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance.
Data Quality, Governance & Security Implement data quality checks, governance standards, and secure handling of personal data in line with UK GDPR.
Data Mining, Distilling & Modelling Design data models and schemas that support recommendation/matching algorithms and downstream reporting.
Analytics Enablement & Reporting Support Supply clean, trusted datasets to power dashboards, business reporting, and product analytics.
Platform Integration & Performance Optimisation Integrate data flows across web, iOS, and Android, and optimise pipeline and query performance at scale.
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years' experience as a Data Engineer, Analytics Engineer, or in a related backend/data role, ideally within a consumer-facing tech platform, marketplace, or social/UGC environment.
- Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Data Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline.
- Strong proficiency in SQL and at least one programming language commonly used for data engineering (e.g. Python, Java, or Scala).
- Hands-on experience building and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines, including ingestion of unstructured or semi-structured data.
- Experience with cloud data infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure), including warehousing/lakehouse tools (e.g. BigQuery, Redshift, Snowflake) and workflow orchestration (e.g. Airflow, dbt).
- Understanding of data modelling, schema design, and data governance principles, including handling of personal data in line with UK GDPR.
- Experience supporting analytics and product teams with clean, reliable datasets for recommendation/matching algorithms, dashboards, and business reporting.
- Familiarity with API integrations and mobile/web app data structures (iOS, Android, web) highly desirable.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to data accuracy, and ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced startup environment.
- Proficiency in Russian or Kazakh (spoken and written) preferred, to communicate with and manage outsourced engineers in Kazakhstan and Latvia.
- Confident communicator with agencies and outsourced teams; stakeholder management experience.
- Startup experience preferred.
