Senior Care Worker
Purpose of the Role
The Senior Care Worker plays a key role in supporting the Registered Manager and Deputy Manager in the effective day-to-day running of the home. This includes taking responsibility for the home in their absence, ensuring safe, high-quality, person-centred care is delivered at all times.
The post holder will lead by example, support and supervise care staff, and contribute to the continuous improvement of care standards within the service.
Care Delivery
Promote and deliver high standards of person-centred care, ensuring dignity, respect, and independence are maintained at all times.
Support residents with personal care needs, including washing, dressing, toileting, and bathing, in a sensitive and respectful manner.
Assist residents with mobility needs, including the safe use of equipment and aids.
Provide support for residents with physical disabilities and continence needs.
Respond promptly to call bells and emergency situations.
Medication & Clinical Responsibilities
Administer medication in line with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date medication records.
Monitor residents’ wellbeing and report any concerns appropriately.
Leadership & Team Support
Lead, support, and supervise care staff on shift, ensuring safe and effective practice.
Assist with the induction, mentoring, and ongoing development of new and existing staff.
Promote a positive, supportive, and professional team culture.
Take charge of the home in the absence of the Registered Manager and Deputy Manager where required.
Care Planning & Documentation
Contribute to the development, review, and updating of care plans and risk assessments, ensuring they reflect residents’ current needs.
Maintain accurate, clear, and contemporaneous care records and case notes.
Complete reports and documentation in line with CQC standards and organisational policies.
Multi-Disciplinary Working
Work collaboratively with GPs, district nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
Communicate effectively with families, visitors, and external agencies.
Ensure professional and welcoming engagement when answering the telephone, door, and greeting visitors.
Communication & Meetings
Attend and actively contribute to staff meetings, handovers, and training sessions.
Ensure clear and effective communication within the team.
General Duties
Carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by management.
Maintain a safe, clean, and supportive environment for residents and staff.
Competence & Professional Development
The Senior Care Worker is expected to demonstrate competence in their role and a commitment to continuous professional development.
Hold or be working towards a Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care (or equivalent).
Participate in annual appraisal, personal development planning, and six-monthly reviews.
Undertake relevant training and development opportunities as agreed with the Registered Manager.
Keep knowledge up to date with best practice, legislation, and CQC standards.

Experience
Previous experience in a care home or senior care environment is essential
Supervising experience is highly desirable, demonstrating leadership capabilities within a team setting
Strong communication skills are necessary for effective interaction with residents, families, and colleagues
Familiarity with developing care plans tailored to individual needs is advantageous
Proficiency in IT systems relevant to care documentation and reporting is beneficial
A valid driving licence is preferred due to the location of the care home.
