Overview
We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Residential Warden to join our team and provide pastoral support, guidance, and supervision within a residential setting.

As a Residential Warden, you will help create a safe, respectful, and supportive home environment where young people feel valued, encouraged, and able to thrive. You will provide guidance, promote positive behaviours, support daily routines, and ensure safeguarding remains at the centre of everything you do.
Duties and Responsibilities
As a Residential Warden, you will be responsible for providing high-quality care, support, and guidance to children and young people within a safe and nurturing residential environment. Your duties will include:
- Providing support, guidance, and supervision to children and young people living within the residential setting.
- Supervising children and young people during daily routines and activities while ensuring their safety and wellbeing at all times.
- Promoting independence, confidence, emotional development, social skills, and essential life skills.
- Providing individualised support based on each child's needs, care plan, goals, and personal circumstances.
- Building trusting and professional relationships with children and young people.
- Encouraging positive behaviour, respectful communication, and healthy relationships.
- Supporting children and young people with education, hobbies, recreational activities, appointments, and community activities.
- Organising and encouraging participation in social, recreational, and enrichment activities.
- Supporting evening routines, activities, and wellbeing checks.
- Assisting with transportation to appointments, activities, and outings where required.
- Maintaining accurate daily records, care notes, observations, incident reports, and other required documentation.
- Monitoring behaviour, emotional wellbeing, development, and progress and reporting concerns appropriately.
- Following safeguarding procedures and reporting any safeguarding concerns immediately and appropriately.
- Working closely with colleagues, families, social workers, education professionals, health professionals, and other relevant agencies.
- Conducting appropriate checks of the residential environment to ensure it remains safe, secure, clean, and welcoming.
- Responding calmly and appropriately to challenging situations, emergencies, or changes in behaviour.
- Following all organisational policies, procedures, risk assessments, care plans, and professional standards.

Essential Requirements
Successful candidates should have:
- Experience working with children or young people in a childcare, residential, education, support work, youth work, social care, or similar environment.
- A good understanding of safeguarding responsibilities when working with children and young people.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to develop positive, trusting, and professional relationships with children and young people.
- The ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
- The ability to accurately maintain records and complete required documentation.
- Basic IT skills and the ability to use electronic systems for recording information.
- A willingness to complete all mandatory training required for the role.
- A valid UK driving licence and the ability to drive safely if transportation of children and young people forms part of the role.
Qualifications and Training Essential
Candidates should have:
- A good standard of general education, including the ability to read, write, understand information, and communicate effectively.
- A willingness to complete mandatory training relevant to the role, including Safeguarding Children, First Aid, Health & Safety, Moving and Handling, Medication Awareness, Infection Prevention and Control, and Behaviour Management.
- A willingness to undertake additional training required to meet the individual needs of the children and young people supported.
- A valid UK driving licence where driving duties are required as part of the role.
Desirable
The following qualifications and training would be advantageous:
- Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare (England) or an equivalent Level 3 qualification in Children and Young People's Services, Childcare, Health & Social Care, or a related subject.
- Level 3 Diploma in Children, Young People and Families Practitioner (Residential Childcare) or an equivalent qualification.
- Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Childcare, Health & Social Care, Youth Work, Education, or Supporting Teaching and Learning.
- Training or qualifications in Safeguarding Children, First Aid, Positive Behaviour Support, Mental Health, Autism, Trauma-Informed Care, or Therapeutic Approaches.
- Experience or training in supporting children and young people with additional needs.
Candidates who do not currently hold a relevant childcare qualification but have suitable experience working with children or young people may still be considered, subject to the requirements of the role and their willingness to complete any required qualifications and training.
Desirable Experience
The following experience would be advantageous:
- Previous experience working in residential childcare or supported accommodation.
- Experience supporting children or young people with additional needs.
- Experience supporting children with emotional or behavioural difficulties.
- Experience working with social workers, education professionals, families, and other external agencies.
- Experience developing or following individual care plans and risk assessments.
- Experience planning and delivering activities for children and young people.
- Experience supporting young people to develop independence and life skills.
Working Pattern & Benefits
This is a live-in residential role, and the successful candidate will be required to live on-site to support the needs of the children and young people and the residential service.
