What does the average day look like?
You'll manage and continuously improve NCB's Integrated Management System (IMS), ensuring compliance with ISO standards, UKAS accreditation requirements, and the organisation's progression towards ISO 27001 certification. Your day will involve reviewing performance data, leading and conducting internal audits, supporting external audits and accreditation activities, updating policies and procedures, monitoring regulatory requirements, and driving continuous improvement. As the IMS is held on MS Sharpoint, ability to use this system for publishing and controlling documents will be needed.
You'll also provide quality management expertise, support the development of new certifications and accreditations, and work with senior leaders as NCB's Risk Coordinator to identify and mitigate business risks across NCB and the wider organisation.
A little bit about the team...
NCB is a wholly owned subsidiary of Network Rail. We are independent from our parent company - this permits us to undertake independent assessment of railway system requirements meeting legislative requirements and providing confidence to stakeholders.
We are multi-functional covering many different aspects of railway engineering with sufficient to commercial, financial and marketing support to work for different clients throughout the UK.
Our offices are in several major cities from London to Glasgow, although the main office is based at Milton Keynes.
The IMS manager reports to the Technical Director and currently has no direct reports, although integration with a matrix structure to our qualified engineering teams is key to achieving effective outcomes.

Who are we looking for?
We're looking for someone with knowledge and experience of designing, implementing and maintaining management systems within an engineering or professional services organisation, ideally covering inspection and certification operations. The successful candidate will have significant experience of implementing systems to key management systems standard e.g. ISO 9001, ISO 27001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 17020 & ISO 17065, or demonstrate capability to independently learn and apply knowledge in this area.
In a role bringing specialist knowledge to the business, you will need to be self-driven to identify and prioritise activities to develop and maintain the management system, to retain accreditations and certifications required by the business.
Essential Criteria
- Chartered membership of a relevant professional institution (e.g. Chartered Quality Institute)
- Educated to a degree level in a relevant subject (e.g. quality management or engineering) or equivalent work experience
- IRCA certified Lead Auditor qualification or proven Lead Auditor experience
- Proven experience of managing quality management systems for an accredited certification body, across multi-disciplinary areas
- A comprehensive technical knowledge of accreditation and certification standards (including BS EN ISO 9001, 14001, 45001, 27001, BS EN ISO / IEC 17065, 17020 and 17025 and associated standards)
- Demonstratable communication, influencing and negotiation skills at executive level
- Experience in the application of risk management principles
