We are looking to employ a full-time member of staff supervisor to take the lead for a new Craft Ale Bar opening soon!
This person must have a passion for all Craft Ales, this bar will be their ‘baby’ Experience and knowledge of all Craft Ales is a ‘must’ but alongside this, you will be making Cocktails too so you’ll need to be flexible and multiskilled in your tasks.
The bar will also become a restaurant/Takeaway on weekends, with various vendors invited to come and host ‘pop up kitchen events’ So there will be much scope for the right applicant!
A craft ale bar supervisor leads daily operations, maintains high product quality, and drives team performance. Key duties include managing staff, ensuring cellar standards (like line cleaning and keg rotation), delivering expert beer recommendations, and overseeing stock control, till operations, and health and safety compliance.
Core Responsibilities
· Bar & Cellar Management: Oversee cellar operations, including changing kegs/casks, line cleaning, and maintaining correct gas pressures and cellar temperatures.
· Team Leadership: Although predominantly working alone, weekends you will need to motivate staff, and train bartenders on beer styles, tasting notes, and correct pouring techniques (e.g., proper head, temperature).
· Customer Experience: Act as the floor leader, helping guests navigate the menu with tailored craft beer and ale recommendations.
· Stock & Inventory: Monitor inventory, track wastage, and assist the owner with weekly ordering and stocktakes.
· Compliance & Safety: Enforce food hygiene standards, licensing laws, and responsible service of alcohol protocols.
· Administration: Handle shift scheduling, till reconciliation, cashing up, and daily banking duties.
Key Requirements & Skills
· Product Knowledge: Extensive understanding of craft beer, real ales, breweries, and brewing processes (e.g., IPAs, stouts, sours, cask vs. keg).
· Experience: Minimum 1-2 years in a hospitality setting, with demonstrated team-leading or supervisory experience.
· Operational Skills: Physical ability to perform cellar duties and work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
· Certifications: Often requires a Level 2 Food Safety and Hygiene certificate and Personal License Holder (PLH) qualification (not essential, but desirable).
