An exciting opportunity has arisen within Housing Options & Homelessness for a Senior Homelessness Prevention & Private Rented Sector (PRS) Officer.
With increasing demand for homelessness services and a continued shortage of social housing, the private rented sector plays a vital role in preventing and relieving homelessness across the city. We are looking for someone who can provide day-to-day operational leadership, support colleagues to deliver high-quality services and help develop innovative approaches that maximise access to private rented accommodation.
Working alongside the Private Rented Sector Manager, you will oversee the day-to-day delivery of homelessness prevention and PRS activity, supporting Homelessness Prevention Officers and PRS Caseworkers to achieve positive outcomes for customers. You will act as the first escalation point for complex cases, provide advice and guidance to colleagues, oversee the effective use of PRS incentives and work closely with landlords, letting agents and partner organisations to increase access to safe, suitable and sustainable accommodation.
This is a varied and rewarding role where no two days are the same. You will need excellent communication, negotiation and problem-solving skills together with the ability to support colleagues, make sound decisions and identify innovative solutions to prevent homelessness. You will also contribute to service improvements, performance monitoring and the development of new approaches that respond to changing housing demand and legislative requirements.
We are looking for someone who has experience of working within housing, homelessness or a related service, together with a good understanding of homelessness legislation and the important role the private rented sector plays in preventing and relieving homelessness. Experience of supervising staff or providing operational leadership, working with landlords and managing complex cases would be an advantage.
