Edinburgh, West Lothian & North Lanarkshire | Mercy Hearts Care
About the role
Mercy Hearts Care is looking for a compassionate, reliable Support Worker to join our team, helping adults live safely, independently and with dignity in their own homes. You'll provide person-centred care that respects each individual's choices, routine and personality — whether that's supporting someone with personal care, helping them stay mobile and safe, or simply being good company. This is a chance to build a genuinely meaningful career in social care, backed by proper training and a supportive team around you.
What you'll be doing
- Providing personal care — washing, dressing, continence and catheter care — with dignity and respect
- Supporting safe moving & handling, including hoist transfers, in line with individual risk assessments and OT guidance
- Supporting medication routines according to each person's care plan
- Preparing meals and offering mealtime support
- Helping with light domestic duties — cleaning, laundry, keeping the home safe and comfortable
- Offering companionship and conversation, and supporting people to stay socially connected and independent
- Supporting people to get out and about — appointments, activities, hobbies — where wanted
- Keeping clear, accurate visit records and reporting any changes in wellbeing promptly
- Working to each person's individual Personal Plan and outcomes, not a one-size-fits-all routine
- Following Care Inspectorate standards, safeguarding procedures, and health & safety protocols at all times
- Working well with families, other care workers, and professionals like GPs, OTs and social workers
What we're looking for
- Experience in care at home, care homes, or a similar caring role is desirable — full induction training provided either way
- A genuinely caring, patient, and respectful approach to supporting people's independence and choices
- Comfortable providing personal care with sensitivity and professionalism
- Good communication skills and a team player, but equally confident working independently on solo visits
- Reliable and flexible — happy to cover mornings, evenings, or weekends as needed
- Willingness to register with the PVG Scheme (we'll support you through this)
- Willingness to work towards an SVQ in Social Services and Healthcare (support provided)
- A driving licence and access to a vehicle is an advantage, given the areas we cover
Why join Mercy Hearts Care
You'll be part of a small, values-led team where the people we support are treated like family — and where you'll be properly supported, trained, and valued in return. If you want work that makes a real, visible difference in someone's day, we'd love to hear from you.
