The Role
We are looking for a caring, experienced and motivated Deputy Manager to support the Manager in leading Whitchurch Pre-School and delivering safe, high-quality education and care. This is a key role within the setting, combining hands-on work with children with leadership responsibilities including supporting staff, maintaining high standards of safeguarding and compliance, overseeing curriculum planning and assessment, and stepping up to run sessions in the Manager’s absence.
As deputy manager and SENCO, you will help drive continuous improvement across the setting, support our ambition for Ofsted excellence, work closely with families and outside professionals, and play an important part in ensuring every child receives the support, care and learning opportunities they need to thrive.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Manager in the day-to-day leadership of the setting and step up to lead sessions when required
- Take overall responsibility for SEN support, inclusive practice, and liaison with outside agencies and schools where needed.
- Promote a strong culture of safeguarding and ensure child protection procedures are understood and followed at all times
- Help maintain high standards of regulatory compliance, record keeping, health and safety, and risk assessment
- Supervise the daily programme of activities and ensure delivery aligns with the EYFS
- Lead by example in providing high-quality care, learning and inclusive practice for all children
- Act as a key person, build strong relationships with parents and carers, and support children’s progress and wellbeing
- Oversee planning, observations and assessment, including use of ‘Famly’ and tracking next steps, progress checks and transitions
- Support the development of an engaging curriculum, including rolling plans and planning in the moment
- Support staff development, attend training, and contribute to meetings, supervisions and appraisals
- Assist with external communications, parent engagement, and promoting the setting to prospective families
- Help manage resources effectively and plan ahead to make best use of the budget

About You
- Qualified with a relevant Level 3 Early Years qualification (or equivalent), with a commitment to further professional development
- Experienced, with at least two years’ experience in an early years care and education setting or similar relevant experience.
- Knowledgeable about child development, the EYFS, safeguarding requirements, and current early years legislation
- Confident and organised, able to lead staff, maintain standards, and support the smooth running of the setting
- Warm and approachable, with excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships with families and colleagues
- Committed to inclusive practice, equal opportunities, and supporting children with additional needs. Experience or qualifications in SEN support are desirable but not essential.
- Motivated to help the setting achieve and maintain high standards, including working towards Ofsted excellence

Pay: £14.40 per hour
