Mechanical Fitter
Altrad are currently looking for experienced Mechanical Fitters to join the team for Outage Works.
This role will involve working 13 Days On, 1 Day Off – 12 Hour Shifts, Mobilisation Start Date 12/10/2026
The position is paid under NAECI agreement, with lodge and travel paid where applicable.
Key Deliverables:
- Read and interpret mechanical engineering drawings, general arrangement drawings and method statements to determine work requirements.
- Read and understand assembly and installation drawings for mechanical plant and equipment.
- Carry out the assembly, installation, maintenance, overhaul and testing of mechanical plant and equipment.
- Perform strip down, inspection, rebuild and installation activities on heat exchangers, valves and associated mechanical equipment.
- Carry out precision alignment, lining and levelling of mechanical plant and equipment.
- Use hand tools and machine tools to shape, prepare and fit mechanical components.
- Operate workshop equipment including lathes, drills and pipe preparation machinery where authorised.
- Conduct testing, fault finding and adjustment of mechanical equipment and systems using approved procedures.
- Prepare work areas, materials and equipment prior to commencing engineering activities, ensuring all safety requirements are met.
- Reinstate equipment and work areas to a safe condition following completion of work activities.
- Work in accordance with permits to work, risk assessments, method statements, POWRA requirements and site safety procedures.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying and reporting defects, issues and opportunities for improvement.
- Provide guidance and support to Mechanical Fitter Trainees where required.
- Maintain the highest standards of quality, safety and workmanship at all times.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, chargehands, engineers, clients, subcontractors and regulatory representatives.
- Interface effectively with other trades to ensure safe and efficient completion of work scopes.
Key Requirements / Qualifications:
- General secondary education or equivalent.
- Completed a recognised Mechanical Fitting Apprenticeship or equivalent vocational qualification.
- NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Fitting, ACE Card or equivalent industry-recognised certification.
- Valid CCNSG Safety Passport or equivalent site-required safety certification.
- Minimum two years' experience in the installation, assembly, precision alignment and levelling of mechanical plant and equipment.
- Experience in the maintenance, overhaul and installation of heat exchangers, valves and associated mechanical systems.
- Experience within the oil & gas, petrochemical, thermal power generation or nuclear sectors is desirable.
- Understanding of human performance principles and safe working practices.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications and installation instructions.
- Critical task training and site-specific authorisations as required by the project.
