The White Horse Inn is a busy, historic country pub in the heart of Hurstpierpoint is looking for an experienced, passionate, and driven Sous Chef to join our growing team on a full-time basis.
Working closely with the Head Chef, you’ll play a key role in delivering high-quality, freshly prepared dishes while helping lead a busy kitchen in a welcoming country pub. This is a fantastic opportunity for a talented chef who takes pride in great food, strong teamwork, and maintaining the highest standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Head Chef in the day-to-day running of the kitchen.
- Lead and motivate the kitchen team, creating a positive and productive working environment.
- Ensure consistently high standards of food preparation, presentation, and quality.
- Maintain excellent food hygiene and safety standards in line with current regulations.
- Assist with menu development using fresh, seasonal ingredients.
- Manage stock, ordering, and minimise waste to maximise efficiency.
- Train and support junior chefs and kitchen staff.
- Work closely with the front-of-house team to ensure exceptional customer service.
- Help control food costs while maintaining quality and consistency.
What We’re Looking For
- Previous experience as a Sous Chef or strong experience as a Senior Chef de Partie ready to step up.
- Experience in a busy pub, restaurant, or hospitality environment.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent knowledge of food hygiene and food safety regulations.
- Passion for fresh, quality food and attention to detail.
- Ability to perform well under pressure in a fast-paced kitchen.
- A positive attitude, reliability, and a strong work ethic.
