About the role
SB Waste Management Ltd is looking for an experienced, organised and confident Office & Personnel Manager to join our team in Blackpool.
This is a hands-on, office-based position working closely with the existing office staff and company directors to support the day-to-day running of the business.
The successful candidate will become the main point of contact for drivers, yard staff and office employees. They will take responsibility for everyday personnel matters, ensure company procedures are followed and help the office operate efficiently.
The role would suit someone who is comfortable working in a busy operational environment and can deal confidently, consistently and fairly with a range of staff and situations.
Working hours
The typical working hours for this role will be 9:00am to 3:00pm, Monday to Friday.
Our office opening hours are:
- Monday to Friday: 7:00am to 5:00pm
- Saturday: 8:00am to 2:00pm
The successful candidate will need to be flexible and willing to work additional hours within these times when the business is particularly busy or to provide cover during staff holidays and absences. Additional hours will be agreed in advance wherever possible.
Main responsibilities
- Supporting the office staff with the day-to-day running of the office and business.
- Acting as the first point of contact for staff queries and workplace issues.
- Managing attendance, lateness, holidays, sickness and return-to-work discussions.
- Dealing with routine performance and conduct matters.
- Supporting formal disciplinary and grievance procedures in conjunction with the directors.
- Ensuring company policies, procedures and working standards are followed consistently.
- Communicating daily instructions and operational information to drivers and yard staff.
- Helping to resolve staffing, customer and operational issues as they arise.
- Monitoring outstanding paperwork, vehicle defects and administrative tasks.
- Maintaining accurate and confidential personnel records.
- Supporting recruitment, interviews, staff inductions and training.
- Helping to improve office systems, communication and working procedures.
- Escalating serious or unresolved matters to the directors.
About you
The successful candidate will be:
- Confident managing people and dealing with difficult conversations.
- Organised, reliable and able to prioritise a varied workload.
- Firm but fair when applying company rules and procedures.
- Comfortable working in a fast-moving operational business.
- Able to communicate clearly with drivers, yard staff, office staff, customers and directors.
- Competent using email, Microsoft Office and general business software.
- Capable of working independently and making sensible day-to-day decisions.
- Discreet and professional when dealing with confidential staff matters.
Previous experience in staff supervision, personnel management, office management, HR, transport, waste management, construction or a similar operational environment would be beneficial.
Formal HR qualifications are desirable but not essential where the applicant can demonstrate strong practical management experience.
