An opportunity to help lead and grow a successful GP practice
The Junction Surgery is seeking an experienced, commercially minded and forward-thinking Practice Business Manager to join our established GP practice in inner Huddersfield.
We are a two-partner, 6,700-patient GMS practice serving a diverse population. We are a GP training
practice, rated Good by the CQC, and consistently achieve strong performance as a high QOF achiever.
We are looking for someone who can combine excellent day-to-day operational management with strong commercial and strategic awareness. Working closely with, and accountable to, the GP Partners, the successful candidate will play a central role in ensuring the practice remains stable, financially viable, efficient and positioned for future growth.
The role
- Provide strong operational and strategic management of the practice, working to the direction and priorities set by the GP Partners.
- Manage and support the practice workforce, including recruitment, performance management, staff development and HR matters.
- Oversee practice finances, budgets, income streams and expenditure, with regular reporting to the GP Partners.
- Ensure the practice maximises income from its GMS contract, QOF, enhanced services and other NHS opportunities.
- Work with the Partners to identify opportunities to increase patient list size and grow practice income.
- Lead workforce planning and ensure effective use of clinical and non-clinical resources.
- Maintain robust governance, policies and systems to support ongoing CQC compliance.
- Monitor performance and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, productivity and patient services.
- Work effectively with the PCN, ICB and wider NHS organisations on behalf of the practice.
- Implement agreed business plans and support the GP Partners with the longer-term strategic development of the practice.
About you
We are particularly interested in candidates who are commercially savvy, confident with people management and comfortable taking ownership of the day-to-day business and operational management of a busy GP practice, while remaining accountable to the GP Partners.
- Previous management experience within general practice, primary care or the wider NHS.
- A good understanding of how NHS general practice operates and is funded.
- Strong HR and people-management experience.
- Good financial and business acumen, with the ability to understand budgets, income streams and practice performance.
- A proactive approach to identifying opportunities for growth, efficiency and additional income.
- Strong leadership, organisational and communication skills.
- The ability to translate the Partners' strategic priorities into effective operational delivery.
- The ability to manage competing priorities while providing clear, timely reporting and recommendations to the GP Partners.
- A positive, solutions-focused approach and the ability to lead and motivate a multidisciplinary team.
Experience as a Practice Manager, Business Manager, Operations Manager or in a senior primary care
management role would be particularly welcomed.
What we offer
- 24-32 hours per week, with flexibility around working pattern.
- Competitive salary, negotiable according to experience and expertise.
- NHS Pension Scheme eligibility where applicable.
- A supportive two-partner leadership structure.
- The opportunity to play a significant role in the operational and business development of the practice.
- Scope to develop the role beyond traditional practice management, with an emphasis on business development, growth and long-term sustainability.
