The Environmental Lead will play a critical role in shaping and delivering TwiningsOvo's environmental sustainability ambitions, with a strong focus on climate, nature (including biodiversity and water stewardship) across our global value chain. The role will help embed environmental thinking into everyday business decisions, ensuring TwiningsOvo continues to act responsibly, credibly and with long-term resilience at its core.
Bringing broad environmental sustainability leadership experience, strong knowledge across climate, nature and water stewardship, and a pragmatic, delivery-focused mindset, the Environmental Lead will work across sourcing, supply chain, operations and corporate functions to translate complex environmental challenges into practical business solutions.
The role will provide leadership across the environmental agenda, drawing on internal and external expertise where appropriate to ensure successful delivery of TwiningsOvo's commitments. Acting as an integrator across environmental disciplines, they will bring together technical expertise, operational teams and external partners to achieve business outcomes and deliver TwiningsOvo's environmental ambitions.
Environmental Strategy & Delivery
- Lead the development and implementation of TwiningsOvo’ environmental sustainability strategy, aligned to our purpose, values and long‑term sustainability commitments.
- Support delivery of environmental ambitions across climate, including prevention of deforestation and land use change, biodiversity, and water, , ensuring they are actionable and measurable.
- Identify emerging environmental risks, opportunities and regulatory developments relevant to TwiningsOvo’ business and sourcing regions.
- Embed environmental priorities into business planning, investment decisions and operational processes.
Climate Change
- Oversee TwiningsOvo and Ovaltine’s climate emissions reductions ambitions and progress against its SBTi commitments to 2030 and 2050.
- Support the Climate and Nature Executive to develop actionable climate roadmaps and concrete emissions reductions pathways and levers.
- Be responsible for making sure TwiningsOvo and Ovaltine’s approach is aligned with key external frameworks and standards including CDP, TCFD and SBTi.
Biodiversity, Nature & Regenerative Landscapes
- Maintain strong knowledge of biodiversity, nature-positive approaches and ecosystem restoration, ensuring TwiningsOvo has access to the expertise needed to deliver its nature-related ambitions.
- Support the development and delivery of biodiversity action plans and collaborative projects within key sourcing origins and operational sites.
- Partner with procurement, sourcing and supply chain teams to strengthen nature‑related outcomes and supplier practices.
- Help shape TwiningsOvo and Ovaltine’s approach to regenerative agriculture, soil health and landscape resilience in tea, herbs and wider agricultural supply chains from which we source.
Water Stewardship
- Identify water‑related risks and opportunities across the value chain, including water scarcity, quality and community impacts.
- Lead and support water stewardship strategy across priority sourcing regions and manufacturing operations.
- Collaborate with suppliers, growers and operational teams in key hotspots to improve water resilience, efficiency and responsible water management.
- Support alignment with recognised water stewardship frameworks and evolving customer and reporting expectations.
Cross‑Functional & External Collaboration
- Partner closely with procurement, sourcing, operations, manufacturing, ESG, legal and communications teams to embed environmental sustainability holistically.
- Build strong relationships with external partners including NGOs, industry initiatives, certification bodies and academic organisations.
- Engage with markets and commercial teams to understand customer and consumer demands and competitor landscape with respect to environmental sustainability.
- Support customer, stakeholder and commercial engagement by providing credible environmental input and insights.
Reporting, Governance & Compliance
- Lead the Environmental Due Diligence Steering Committee, a cross-functional group of senior leaders and technical experts helping to implement our evolving approach to environmental due diligence and stewardship across the value chain.
- Support internal governance and external environmental reporting requirements, ensuring accuracy, consistency and credibility.
- Contribute to ESG disclosures, customer reporting and sustainability communications.
- Monitor progress against environmental KPIs and targets, identifying actions where progress is off track.
- Support compliance with existing and emerging relevant environmental legislation, standards and voluntary commitments across geographies.
Essential
- Significant experience in environmental sustainability, ideally within FMCG, food & beverage, agriculture or complex global supply chains.
- Strong knowledge across environmental sustainability topics, including climate, nature/biodiversity and water stewardship, with the ability to understand the connections between them and translate strategy into practical action.
- Experience developing and delivering on environmental strategy, including concrete implementation within a commercial business context.
- Proven ability to influence and collaborate effectively with senior leaders, technical experts, procurement and operational teams.
- Comfortable balancing strategic development with hands‑on delivery across multiple workstreams.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving and decision‑making capability.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical issues into clear, compelling messages.
Desirable
- Experience designing or supporting regenerative or responsible agriculture programmes.
- Familiarity with nature‑related reporting and target‑setting frameworks (e.g. SBTi, TCFD, TNFD, SBTN, CDP Climate and Water).
- Knowledge of climate strategy, Scope 3 emissions and links between climate and nature and water.
- Experience working with certification schemes and sustainability standards relevant to agricultural supply chains.
- Understanding of global sourcing challenges, particularly in tea or other perennial crops.
- Established external network and strong relationships across NGOs, industry initiatives, certification and standards bodies, academic institutions and technical experts, with the ability to leverage these partnerships to accelerate delivery, influence industry practice and support TwiningsOvo's environmental ambitions.
- Pragmatic and solutions-oriented mindset, with the ability to balance commercial realities while upholding organisational values, codes, policies and long-term sustainability ambitions.
