HGV Technician

Contract: Temporary – 3 Months
Hours: 37 Hours per Week, Monday to Friday
Rate: £19.81 per hour
About the Role
We are recruiting for an experienced HGV Technician to join a busy workshop responsible for maintaining and repairing a diverse fleet of heavy goods vehicles, commercial vehicles and specialist plant equipment.
This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified technician who enjoys a varied role involving diagnostics, servicing, preventative maintenance and repairs. You'll ensure vehicles remain safe, compliant and available for operational use while working within a well-equipped workshop environment.
What You'll Be Doing
- Carry out servicing, maintenance and repairs to HGVs, commercial vehicles and plant equipment.
- Diagnose faults and complete repairs to manufacturer and DVSA standards.
- Carry out preventative maintenance and scheduled servicing.
- Complete vehicle safety inspections and prepare vehicles for annual testing (MOT/DVSA).
- Undertake roadside breakdown repairs where required.
- Maintain accurate workshop records, inspection reports and job cards.
- Inspect hydraulic, pneumatic and electronic vehicle systems.
- Liaise with supervisors to prioritise workloads and minimise vehicle downtime.
- Assist with stock control and ordering vehicle parts.
- Ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with Health & Safety procedures.
- Participate in an out-of-hours standby rota where required.
What We're Looking ForEssential
- NVQ Level 3 or City & Guilds in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance, Motor Vehicle Engineering or equivalent.
- At least 3 years' experience maintaining and repairing HGVs or commercial vehicles.
- Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills.
- Experience carrying out vehicle servicing, inspections and preventative maintenance.
- Good knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic and electronic vehicle systems.
- Experience working within a busy commercial vehicle workshop.
- Ability to work independently and manage your own workload.
- Full UK Category B Driving Licence.
- HGV Category C Licence.
Desirable
- Recognised apprenticeship in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance.
- Forklift Truck Licence.
- CPC qualification.
- Experience working on municipal or refuse vehicles.
- Experience with fleet management or workshop software.
- Knowledge of DVSA testing requirements and vehicle compliance.
