Senior Personal Advisor
Pathways Through Care Service – supporting Southampton’s children in care and care experienced young people.
An exciting opportunity for a permanent Senior Personal Advisor post has become available within the Pathways Through Care Service.
Southampton Children’s Services were inspected by Ofsted in June 2023 and all services were rated to be Good with Outstanding Leadership and Management; an outcome we are extremely proud of! We are looking for a committed, experienced and enthusiastic team member to join our leaving care service to provide support to the team manager and promote excellent practice within the team. We support care experienced young people aged 16-25 as they make the transition into adulthood.
The Leaving Care Service has good links with partner agencies and we have a strong corporate parenting strategy to give our care experienced young adults the best opportunities and support we can offer. You will need energy and empathy to offer the support our young people need to reach their potential and have aspirations for their futures.
You will have a good grasp of the relevant legislation for care leavers and experience of working with older children and young people, with a clear understanding of the impact of trauma and the need for high quality, committed relationships that provide security for young people at one of the most critical and vulnerable times in their lives. We are working within a Systemic Practice framework and you will benefit from reflective supervision and strong management support.
The Senior Personal Advisor will:
- Be an aspiring leader who is able to demonstrate experience or potential in this area to support the team manager in the operational functions of the team
- Be part of the wider service management team and be able to make a contribution to strategic direction in key areas such as Housing, Education training and employment, health
- Be accountable for your own caseload and balance this with the senior role, ensuring that individual & team performance is supported.
- Be creative and flexible with the ability to prioritise & deal with several issues at once. You will need proven problem solving and analytical skills to offer direction to others
- Have excellent IT skills being able to use excel, word & other IT data systems
- Have excellent and accurate written skills with the ability to write reports and present information in a clear and concise way.
- Be involved with participation activities and take a lead in promoting and running events alongside the participation officer
- Have use of own transport on a daily basis and have a full driving license.
- Be prepared to work outside of office hours including evening and weekends as required to support participation activities

You will be based in the Civic Centre in Southampton. A hybrid working pattern is offered.

Salary: The salary band for this role is Grade 9. The starting salary is £41,771 (SCP 31).
