Job Summary
We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated Volunteer Joiner & Decorating Volunteers to join our community-focused renovation and beautification projects. In this role, you will contribute your carpentry, decorating, and construction skills to help transform spaces, restore properties, and enhance community environments. Duties
- Carry out basic joinery and woodworking tasks to support improvements and maintenance within Hilton Convention Centre.
- Repair, install, or assemble fixtures, fittings, furniture, shelving, and other wooden structures as required.
- Assist with small renovation and refurbishment projects.
- Ensure all work is completed safely and to a good standard.
- Work alongside staff and other volunteers to help improve community spaces within the centre.
- Assist with framing, trim carpentry, and drywall installation to prepare spaces for finishing.
- Support flooring installation, tile laying, cabinet hanging, door hanging, and fixture installation to complete renovation tasks.
- Operate hand tools and power tools safely for tasks such as rebar installation, metal stud framing, and concrete forming.
- Collaborate with team members on heavy lifting, and site cleanup to maintain a safe and efficient work environment.
- Prepare surfaces for painting and decorating, including cleaning, sanding, and filling where necessary.
- Paint walls, ceilings, doors, skirting boards, and other interior surfaces.
- Apply wallpaper and assist with other decorative finishes.
- Help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment throughout the centre.
- Work collaboratively with staff and volunteers on improvement projects
Skills
- Strong knowledge of construction estimating, blueprint reading, and schematic interpretation.
- Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, CNC machinery, and fabrication techniques.
- Experience in various carpentry disciplines such as trim carpentry, framing (wooden and metal), cabinetry, and drywall finishing.
- Familiarity with masonry, roofing, siding installation, electrical work, plumbing basics, and flooring techniques.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely while maintaining attention to detail during projects like rebar installation or masonry work.
- Practical joinery, carpentry, or woodworking skills.
- Experience using hand and power tools safely.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good attention to detail and pride in producing quality work.
- Previous professional, trade, DIY, or voluntary joinery experience is welcomed.
- Experience in painting, decorating, wallpapering, or similar practical work.
- Knowledge of surface preparation and finishing techniques.
- Good attention to detail and a high standard of workmanship.
- Ability to work independently and manage tasks effectively.
- Understanding of health and safety requirements when using decorating materials and equipment.
- Previous professional, trade, DIY, or voluntary decorating experience is welcomed.
- Excellent teamwork skills with a proactive attitude towards learning new skills in the restoration industry or manufacturing environments.
