Job summary
The Isle of Wight 0-19 Service (Health Visiting & School Nursing) has an exciting opportunity for a Band 5 Registered Nurse or Midwife to join our health visiting and school nursing team for a 12 month Fixed Term Contract.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated, practitioner with excellent communication and organisational skills to join our service in delivering the Healthy Child Programme to children and their families across the Island. We work in close partnership with Midwifery, Education, Barnardo's and Children's Centres, Primary Care, and wider children's services, with the aim of improving health outcomes and reducing inequalities for all children in the early years and onwards.
The service offers a robust supervision and management structure. We actively encourage professional development and provide training and regular updates to ensure you maintain the knowledge and skills required to deliver the Healthy Child Programme to the local population. If you are keen to develop your career in the future, there may be opportunities for the right candidate to undertake the SCPHN course to qualify as a health visitor or school nurse. We all bring different skills and experiences but share a collective understanding of the Solent NHS Trust HEART values and demonstrate these in our practice.

Main duties, tasks & skills required
The role of the School Health Nurse is to work within the 0 to 19 Children and Families Team to deliver the Healthy Child Programme to children, young people and families on the Isle of Wight.
The post holder will assess health needs, provide evidence-based interventions, promote health and wellbeing, safeguard children and young people, and work collaboratively with partner agencies to improve outcomes.
The School Nursing team works with children and young people of school, age and care is delivered across a variety of settings including schools, community settings and family homes. We work closely with other services and professionals to safeguard and ensure the best outcomes for children and their families.
