At Thomas Bata Children’s Home, we are looking for caring, resilient and committed Residential Support Workers who want to be part of a team that provides children with safety, stability, positive relationships and opportunities to thrive.
You’ll be supporting children and young people aged 8–17 who may have experienced trauma, disruption or difficult life experiences. Through consistency, patience and genuine relationships, you’ll help them build trust, develop confidence and work towards brighter futures.

What You Can Earn
Your contracted salary will be:
£26,600 – £29,120 per year
With additional sleep-ins and overtime, your target annual earnings are approximately £34,348 – £37,344.

What Will the Role Involve?
No two days in a children’s home are exactly the same.
You might be supporting a young person to get ready for school, attending an appointment, cooking dinner together, helping with homework, going out for an activity or simply being available when they need someone to talk to.
You’ll also play an important role in:
- Building safe, trusting and professional relationships with children
- Supporting children with their routines, education, independence and personal goals
- Planning activities and creating positive experiences
- Helping children regulate their emotions during difficult moments
- Maintaining clear and consistent boundaries
- Completing key-work sessions and accurate records
- Working closely with colleagues and other professionals
- Contributing to a safe, nurturing and welcoming home
Who Are We Looking For?
We’re interested in people who understand that behaviour is often a form of communication and who can remain calm, curious and compassionate when things become difficult.
You’ll need to:
- Have experience working with children or young people
- Be caring, emotionally intelligent and resilient
- Be able to build positive relationships while maintaining professional boundaries
- Be comfortable working within a trauma-informed approach
- Hold a Level 3 qualification in Residential Childcare, or be willing to complete one
- Be flexible to work across a 7-day rota, including weekends and sleep-ins
- Be committed to safeguarding and achieving positive outcomes for children
Most importantly, we’re looking for people who are consistent. Our children need adults who mean what they say, follow through on promises and continue showing up even when a day has been difficult.
Typical Shifts
Our rota includes a mixture of:
- 8:00am – 11:00pm, followed by a sleep-in
- 8:00am – 8:00pm
- 3:00pm – 11:00pm, followed by a sleep-in
- Occasional 8:00pm – 8:00am waking nights, planned in advance
