Are you practical, reliable and take pride in maintaining high standards in assistant the effective management of the day to day running and presentation of a Charity Retail Shop? We are looking for a flexible team player with a ‘can‑do’ attitude who enjoys varied work and understands the importance of keeping a busy shop, stocked, clean, safe and welcoming while meeting performance and financial targets.
Overall Purpose of the Post
- Support the shop manager in day-to-day operations, ensuring the store runs smoothly and efficiently
- Supervise and motivate volunteers, helping create a positive and productive team environment
- Maximise sales and donations by maintaining attractive displays, good stock rotation, and excellent customer service
- Handle cash, pricing, and basic financial tasks responsibly to meet fundraising targets
- Sort, price, and organise donated goods to ensure quality and appeal for customers
- Promote the charity’s mission by engaging with customers and encouraging community support
Role responsibilities
General Duties
- To provide a high-quality retail experience to all our customers and our community and to build and maintain relationships
- Maintain a flexible and proactive approach to daily tasks and shop priorities
- Demonstrate a positive attitude and take pride in the working environment
- Undertake any other duties reasonably requested by management which are commensurate with the role
- To make sure to have a ‘can-do’ attitude with a confident approach to problem solving and making decisions
- An ability to drive is desirable
- Must be flexible and a team player
- Will involve some weekend and evening work
- Cover other shops and online sales and when required
Leadership
- To promote the RSPCA Sheffield Animal Shelter, the shop, online sales in the local community
- To be an excellent role model and help create a positive environment so that all shop team members feel motivated and valued
- To promote excellent customer service and best practice to all members of the shop team
- To attend and actively participate in RSPCA Sheffield staff meetings, events and training
- To carry out daily admin and financial procedures (till operating, cash handing and banking) correctly in line with RSPCA Sheffield’s policies and procedures
- Work closely with the shop manager, shop staff and volunteers, and other personnel, cascading information as required and working collaboratively to ensure targets and objectives are successfully met
Shop Trading
- To create a warm and welcoming environment for customers, volunteers and colleagues
- To continually assist and support the shop’s performance by meeting or exceeding income targets. This includes the sale of donated stock, Gift Aid, and cash donations
- To operate the till, and cash/card handling
- To continually support in sourcing stock and cash donations and create community connections
- Responsible for safely sorting and storing stock and preparing items for display
- To support in actively recruiting volunteers
- To ensure that there is a consistent and adequate floor of stock that is rotated and priced in accordance with RSPCA Sheffield pricing policy
- To keep the shop safe, clean and fully merchandised with attractive window and stock displays reflecting trends and themes
- To move and sort large quantities of stock, which may regularly include lifting and carrying of donations, sometimes in confined or limited space
Cleaning Duties
- Carry out regular cleaning of the shop and non-public areas
- Safely use appropriate cleaning equipment, materials and products in line with training and health and safety guidance
- Promote a consistently clean and welcoming environment including outside the shop
Health and Safety
- Follow all health and safety procedures and contribute to maintaining a safe working environment
- Identify and report hazards, faults or unsafe conditions
- Participate in relevant training including manual handling and site safety
