Relief Delivery Driver – The Moorings Bakery, Blackburn
Job Overview
The Moorings Bakery is looking for a reliable Relief Delivery Driver to cover annual leave, sickness, and busy periods across our delivery routes. This is a variable-hours role with a guaranteed minimum of 16 hours per week, rising to as many as 42 hours per week when cover is needed. You'll need to be genuinely flexible – hours are worked as and when required, and while we'll always give notice where we can, availability at short notice is part of the job. Start and finish times vary by route and by day, so exact working hours will flex depending on the round you're covering.
This role would suit someone local who wants guaranteed regular hours with the opportunity for plenty more, and is comfortable with early starts and a changing schedule.
Responsibilities
- Safely drive company vans to deliver fresh bakery goods to customers across our routes.
- Load and unload deliveries, including some lifting.
- Complete all deliveries accurately and on time, following the route plan for the day.
- Communicate promptly with the bakery regarding any delays, issues, or customer queries during the round.
- Carry out daily vehicle checks before and after each shift and report any defects.
- Complete delivery paperwork accurately.
- Help out in the bakery/loading area when needed.
What we're looking for
- Full, valid UK driving licence. Please note: licences with more than 6 penalty points cannot be covered on our insurance, and any offer of employment is conditional on this basis.
- Previous delivery or van driving experience preferred.
- Genuine flexibility – this is a relief role, and covering at short notice is what it's for.
- Reliable and punctual, with the common sense to sort problems out on the road.
- A good memory for routes and the ability to follow sat nav directions confidently.
- Physically fit and able to lift safely.
- Friendly and presentable – you'll be the face of the bakery to our customers.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing schedules or routes as required by operational demands.

- Hours worked when required, with notice given where possible.
- Start/finish times vary by route.
Pay: £12.85 per hour
