Quality and Compliance Officer (Part-Time)
Pay: £35,000 per annum, pro rata (based on a 3-day week)
Hours: Part-time — 3 days per week (days flexible, to be agreed)
Location: Ingleton, North Yorkshire
Purpose of the role:
To own quality and compliance across the business — ensuring products are checked, tested and released to the required standard, the quality management system is maintained and audit-ready at all times, and customer concerns are investigated and resolved professionally.
The role is the site's go-to person for all things quality, working closely with production and management, and acting as the main point of contact for external auditors and certification bodies. This is a part-time role, ideal for someone looking for 3 days a week with the flexibility of hybrid working.
Key responsibilities:
Sample checking & quality release
- Carry out checks and testing of product samples against agreed specifications
- Oversee the quality release process, ensuring no product is released without the required checks and documentation being complete
- Maintain accurate, audit-ready records of all checks, tests and release decisions
- Quarantine and manage non-conforming product, driving root-cause investigation and corrective action
Compliance & quality management system
- Oversee day-to-day compliance with the company's quality management system and relevant regulatory requirements
- Maintain, review and update policies, procedures and work instructions
- Monitor compliance across the site and support colleagues in following correct procedures
- Drive continuous improvement of quality processes and documentation
- Responsibility for H&S overview (reporting into Head Office Technical)
ISO & audits
- Plan and carry out the internal audit programme in line with ISO requirements
- Act as the lead contact for external auditors and certification bodies, coordinating audit visits and ensuring the site is always audit-ready
- Manage audit findings through to closure, tracking corrective and preventive actions
Customer complaints
- Log, investigate and respond to customer complaints in a timely and professional manner
- Identify root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence
- Report on complaint trends and quality performance to management
Person specification
Essential:
- Experience in a quality assurance / quality control role within a manufacturing or regulated environment
- Working knowledge of ISO quality management systems and internal auditing
- Confident dealing with external auditors and customers
- Strong attention to detail with excellent record-keeping and documentation skills
- Able to investigate problems methodically and see corrective actions through to completion
- Good communicator, comfortable working with colleagues at all levels from shop floor to director
- Able to manage a site-based, audit-critical function effectively on a 3-day working pattern
Desirable (but not essential):
- Internal auditor qualification (e.g. ISO 9001 internal auditor training)
- Experience in healthcare, medical devices, pharmaceutical or another regulated sector
- Root-cause analysis experience (e.g. 8D, 5 Whys, fishbone)
- Experience handling customer complaints or CAPA systems
