Job Overview
A vacancy has arisen for a qualified welder to join the Operations team as a Welding and Fabrication Technician.
The role reports to Welding Team Leader. The successful person would be working within a small department tasked with performing Pin Repair within the Lochaber site facility. There will be an expectation to carry out additional welding support to the wider site, when required and workload allows.

Responsibilities
- Maintenance and repair of the welding equipment and other equipment within the department.
- Removal of pins and welding of pins to the required standard as set out in the departmental Standard Working Practices.
- Welding of aluminium hangers as required.
- Updating and improving department Standard Working Practices and assist with introducing into department where relevant.
- Assist with identifying training requirements to keep own competencies.
- Support other areas of the smelter site by providing welding support, at times when workload and timescales allow.
- Pro-actively seek additional welding work from wider smelter site/ functions when existing pin repair activity is nearing completion.
- Only conduct tasks once a suitable or sufficient Risk Assessment is in place and correct brief has been carried out.
- Ensure correct tools, plant and equipment for tasks are kept in good condition, are safe before use and report any defects to supervisor/team leaders.
- Ensure that personal protective equipment and safety equipment provided is used correctly.
- Work in a safe manner at all times, avoid taking unnecessary risks and avoid improvisation which entails risk.
- Will not attempt to carry out any tasks for which relevant training, if required, has not been completed.
- Report all accidents and incidents immediately to supervisor or manager.
- Demonstrate a personal concern for safety, not only for themselves but for fellow workers and visitors to the site.
Qualifications
Essential:
- Experience in plasma cutting, mild steel and aluminium welding.
- Qualified welder, fabricator qualification.
Desirable
- Overhead crane training and Forklift truck training would be beneficial however training will be provided for successful applicant.
Hours of Work
- Monday - Friday (Friday half-day)
