About the Role
We are looking for experienced Biology Practical Skills Experts to deliver A Level Biology practical sessions and assess learners against the Common Practical Assessment Criteria (CPAC) and the required Apparatus and Techniques.
You will deliver practical endorsement sessions, accurately assess learner performance and maintain detailed assessment records so that outcomes can be reported to consortium examination centres and awarding organisations.
There may also be opportunities to support and assess adult learners who deliver or support Level 3 Biology practical teaching and assessment within schools, colleges and tuition centres.
Successful applicants will receive a full day's training covering the current A Level Biology practical assessment requirements across AQA, Pearson Edexcel, Eduqas and OCR.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Assessment
- Deliver practical teaching sessions to groups of between 1 and 15 learners.
- Deliver high-quality teaching in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Maintain accurate learner progress and assessment records.
- Attend training sessions and team meetings as required.
- Complete associated administrative duties.
- Test and prepare laboratory equipment, troubleshooting any issues before delivery.
- Ensure practical activities are suitable and adapted where necessary.
- Provide learners with sufficient opportunities to demonstrate competence against the required standards.
- Assess learners in line with awarding organisation and regulatory requirements.
Health and Safety
- Review all relevant risk assessments before delivery.
- Take responsibility for health and safety during practical sessions.
- Ensure learners understand and follow all health and safety procedures.
- Ensure learners complete any required health and safety assessments.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications and Knowledge
- BSc in Biology or a relevant Science Teaching degree.
- A Level Practical Endorsement Certification (to be completed if successful).
- Good understanding of the British education sector.
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and/or experience teaching within Higher Education.
Desirable Qualifications
- MSc or PhD in a relevant science subject.
Essential Experience
- Minimum of two years' teaching experience.
- Experience working with laboratory equipment.
- Experience preparing chemical solutions.
- Experience writing laboratory risk assessments.
Desirable Experience
- Experience assessing A Level Science practical work.
- Experience working within multicultural environments.
- Experience in quality assurance.
- Experience supporting learners with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and adapting teaching accordingly.
