Handy-person — up to 16 hours per week

£13–£15 per hour
MJ Children’s Services runs two small residential children’s homes. We need a friendly, enthusiastic and reliable maintenance person across both sites.
The Work
Doors, locks, windows, shelving, flooring repairs, decorating, general fabric maintenance and small remedial jobs. Reactive work when something fails and planned work between placements — rooms turned around and repainted at short notice. Gas, electrical and any other certified work goes to qualified trades; this role does not cover it.
The Environment
You will be working in occupied homes. Young people will be present. We're looking for a relaxed individual with a kind demeanor who can work around the children professionally, follow the home’s safeguarding procedures, and take direction from the Registered Manager on what needs doing.
No prior experience of care settings is required, but its not your average working site, so you have to be easy going around unpredictable young people!
Requirements
- Demonstrable competence across general building and property maintenance
- Own tools and own transport between sites
- Enhanced DBS with barred list check (arranged and funded by us)
- Full employment history from leaving education, with written explanation of any gaps
- Two references, one of which must be your most recent employer. We reserve the right to approach any previous employer.
- Right to work in the UK
Hours and pay
Up to 16 hours per week, split across both sites. Flexible scheduling by agreement. £13–£15 per hour depending on demonstrated experience + .25p per mile.
