The Transport and Distribution Manager is responsible for overseeing the safe, efficient and compliant management of the company's transport and logistics operations within the aggregates, asphalt and quarry mineral products sector and beyond. The role involves managing the movement of materials across the UK using a mixed fleet of commercial vehicles, including LGVs, articulated vehicles, tipper trucks and vans, while ensuring compliance with UK transport legislation, maintaining high service standards and supporting business growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day transport and distribution activities to ensure timely and efficient delivery of materials across the UK.
- Oversee the operation, utilisation and maintenance of a mixed fleet of commercial vehicles, ensuring maximum operational efficiency and vehicle availability.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant UK transport legislation, including the Road Traffic Act, Operator Licence requirements, DVSA regulations, Drivers' Hours Rules and the Working Time Directive.
- Coordinate vehicle maintenance programmes, inspections, servicing schedules and defect reporting to maintain roadworthiness and minimise downtime.
- Recruit, supervise, train and develop drivers and transport personnel, ensuring staff remain competent, compliant and up to date with legal and company requirements.
- Work closely with customers, production sites, planners and drivers to maintain efficient transport operations and high levels of customer satisfaction.
- Monitor transport costs, fleet performance, fuel usage and operational KPIs, identifying opportunities to improve productivity and reduce operating costs.
- Maintain accurate transport, compliance and training records and prepare operational reports for senior management.
- Promote continuous improvement by implementing best practices in fleet management, safety, environmental performance and operational efficiency.
Skills, Qualifications and Experience
- Experience in transport, logistics or distribution management within the haulage, construction materials, quarrying or related sectors is desirable; however, full training will be provided for the right candidate.
- Good knowledge of UK road transport legislation, DVSA requirements, Operator Licence compliance and fleet management practices.
- Strong organisational, leadership and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple operational priorities.
- Experience supervising and developing transport staff and drivers.
- Proficiency in transport management software, fleet management systems and telematics is desirable.
- Education: Master's degree or higher in Transport Management, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Management, Operations Management or a related discipline.
Additional Requirements
- Valid MPQC Connect Card (or willingness to obtain prior to commencing site-based duties).
- LGV/HGV or van driving experience is advantageous but not essential.
- Transport Manager CPC qualification is desirable but not essential.

Pay: £34,669.99-£45,000.00 per year
