As a Housing Assistant, you will support the Supported Housing Officers and Housing Service Manager in delivering an effective and compliant housing management service across supported housing services.
You will provide administrative, coordination and operational support across income management, housing management administration, compliance monitoring and resident engagement. The role will support vulnerable residents indirectly by ensuring accurate record keeping, timely processing of documentation and efficient coordination between housing, support and external stakeholders.
This role is ideal for someone looking to develop a career within housing management and gain experience across income recovery, housing management processes within a supported housing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Income Management Support
- Assist with monitoring rent and personal service charge accounts, identifying low-level arrears cases for early intervention.
- Generate arrears letters (ST1 stage) in line with policy.
- Support with arranging payment plans and recording arrangements on systems.
- Liaise with Housing Benefit departments regarding claim updates and payment queries.
- Ensure HB documentation is uploaded and recorded accurately.
- Support former tenant arrears processes including tracing forwarding addresses where appropriate.
- Maintain accurate records of income-related communications and actions.
- Managing overpayment invoices and sending these to Supported Housing Officers for investigation/ approval
Legal & Compliance Support
- Print and organise legal paperwork review by Supported Housing Officers which includes notices and court bundles.
- Track notice expiry dates and legal deadlines.
- Support audit preparation by ensuring records are accurate and up to date
Generic Duties
- Provide cover across regions during staff absence.
- Support data entry and reporting requirements.
- Assist with preparation of performance reports (arrears, voids, compliance).
- Attend team meetings, supervision and training.
- Travel occasionally to services where required.
- Positively promote and represent the organisation at all times.
About you:
- Basic knowledge of housing management processes.
- Understanding of rent accounts and arrears processes desirable.
- Knowledge of Housing Benefit processes desirable.
- Strong administrative and organisational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Good IT skills including case management systems and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team.
- Understanding of confidentiality and data protection requirements.
