About the role
As a Residential Support Worker at Rowan Lodge, you will provide consistent, nurturing and high-quality care to children and young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties.
You will help create a safe, stable and welcoming home where children can build positive relationships, develop confidence and make meaningful progress.
This is not simply a role where you supervise children or complete daily tasks. You will become an important and trusted adult in a child’s life. Some days will be challenging, but the work you do can make a lasting difference.
Your responsibilitiesSupporting children and young people
- Build positive, trusting and appropriate relationships with children
- Provide a nurturing and structured environment that promotes stability and wellbeing
- Support children with routines, meals, activities, education and health appointments
- Encourage children to develop independence, confidence and practical life skills
- Take an active part in therapeutic, recreational and community-based activities
- Maintain consistent boundaries in line with individual care and behaviour support plans
- Celebrate children’s progress, including the smaller achievements that can mean a great deal
Safeguarding
- Promote and safeguard the welfare of children at all times
- Recognise and respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns or disclosures
- Follow risk assessments, care plans and safeguarding procedures
- Complete clear, accurate and timely records of incidents, observations and daily care
Working as part of the team
- Work closely with colleagues and professionals, including social workers, education providers and therapists
- Attend and contribute to team meetings, training, supervision and reflective discussions
- Communicate openly and professionally with colleagues
- Reflect on your practice and remain open to guidance and development
- Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality
Care planning and recording
- Help implement children’s care plans, placement plans and risk assessments
- Contribute to reviews and professional meetings where required
- Complete daily records, incident reports and other documentation to a high standard
- Ensure children’s views, wishes and feelings are represented in the work you complete
Creating a home
- Contribute to cooking, cleaning and the everyday running of Rowan Lodge
- Help maintain a safe, comfortable and welcoming environment
- Take part in activities and shared experiences that make the home feel like a home

You will need to be able to remain calm during difficult situations, work consistently as part of a team and understand that children may communicate their experiences through their behaviour.
Residential childcare experience is welcomed, but your values, attitude and willingness to learn are equally important. We will provide training and support to help the right person develop.
