I am a wheelchair user with varying limitations daily due to a variety of complex physical and mental health conditions. These mean there is a variation to my daily capabilities and energy levels.
Due to an increase in support needs, I am looking for an additional Female Personal Assistant (Schedule 9 Part 1 of the Equality Act 2010) to join my existing team and provide support to improve my wellbeing, independence, and quality of life.
I am initially offering 15 hours between 11.30am and 10pm with the option to increase to adhoc additional waking overnight shifts after building a relationship with me. These are primarily where you are required to stay awake overnight to provide support with nocturnal hypoglycaemia.
The Role
Duties will include:

Supporting health, wellbeing and community participation.

Assisting with preparation for activities, travel and mobility needs.

Monitoring for hypoglycaemia, fatigue and symptoms following exercise.

Providing domestic support including cleaning, laundry, changing bedding and maintaining an organised home environment.

Assisting with meal preparation, batch cooking and supporting gluten-free dietary requirements.

Prompting and supporting food and fluid intake.
-
Recognising symptoms of low blood sugar and responding appropriately, including support with Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) alerts.

Providing personal care when requested, including support with showering, dressing, hair care and continence needs.

Medication prompting and assistance.

Supporting wheelchair use both indoors and outdoors when required.
- Helping with diary management, appointments, administrative tasks and rota planning.
Personal Specification
Essential

Have previous experience working in care or as a Personal Assistant

Be comfortable providing personal care support when required

Be able to prepare fresh gluten-free meals

Be comfortable working in a home with a cat

Be reliable, flexible, and punctual

Work independently as well as part of a team

Respect confidentiality and professional boundaries

Be able to use smartphones, WhatsApp, shared calendars, and electronic rotas

Full driving licence and access to reliable transport with the appropriate business insurance.

Be physically able to safely handle and transport a foldable wheelchair following Moving and Handling training
Summary Terms and Conditions
- The rate of pay for this position is £12.89 per hour between 8am and 10pm, £12.71 per hour between 10pm and 8am (waking nights).
- Hours and times of work as follows: 15 hours per week. Additional hours may be available to cover sickness and holidays.
- The annual holiday entitlement for this position will be equivalent to the work I would normally expect to be done during 5.6 consecutive weeks.
- Paid induction and shadowing period
- Mandatory paid training provided, including:
- Moving and Handling (including annual refresher training)
- Food Hygiene/Food Safety
- Training specific to my health needs, including hypoglycaemia management and CGM support, gluten free food handling without cross contamination.
The post is subject to the following:
- A satisfactory enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check, the cost of which will be covered by the employer.
- Satisfactory references from two referees, one of which must be your current or last employer.
- Completion of a satisfactory probation period of 6 months.
