Salary: £29,000-32,000. (Plus earn up to £8,400 PTing only 5 hours per week.)
There are hundreds of coaching jobs.
This isn't one of them.
We're looking for someone who believes that coaching is about far more than reps, sets and programming. Someone who genuinely cares about people, wants to lead an incredible team and is proud to be part of something that makes a real difference.
Our flagship gym has become one of Oxford's most loved fitness communities, with over 100 five-star Google reviews and a reputation for kindness, inclusivity and exceptional coaching. We're looking for the right person to build on that legacy.
This isn't a role for someone who simply wants to manage a timetable.
It's for someone who wants to become known for leading the best gym in Oxford.
Who are we?
The Project PT is a female-founded, community-focused strength and fitness company that exists to make exercise accessible to everyone.
We believe gyms should be welcoming, inclusive and genuinely life-changing.
Every day we work with people who have never felt comfortable in a gym before. Teenagers building confidence. Older adults regaining independence. Women training throughout pregnancy. People recovering from illness. Members who simply want somewhere they belong.
We measure success by the impact we have on people's lives—not by how many mirrors we have on the walls.
The Role
As Gym Manager, you'll take ownership of our flagship Magdalen Road site.
You'll lead from the front, coaching exceptional sessions, developing the team around you and ensuring every member has an outstanding experience from the moment they walk through the door.
You'll work closely alongside the founders to continue shaping the future of The Project PT and play a key role in maintaining the culture that makes our gym so special.
This is a leadership role, but first and foremost, it's a coaching role.
We're looking for someone who loves being on the gym floor.
You'll thrive here if...
- You genuinely love helping people.
- You build relationships naturally.
- You're the person everyone feels comfortable talking to.
- You hold high standards without losing kindness.
- You enjoy mentoring other coaches.
- You care deeply about creating a brilliant member experience.
- You want to leave work feeling proud of the impact you've had.
Your Responsibilities
- Lead and coach exceptional group sessions and personal training.
- Manage the day-to-day running of our flagship gym.
- Support, mentor and develop our coaching team.
- Maintain the welcoming culture our members know and love.
- Ensure outstanding member retention and experience.
- Help drive membership growth through excellent service.
- Work alongside the founders to continually improve the business.
- Be an ambassador for The Project PT values in everything you do.
Essential Requirements
We're looking for someone who has:
- A Level 3 Personal Training qualification.
- At least 4 years' coaching experience.
- Outstanding people skills and emotional intelligence.
- Previous experience leading or mentoring others.
- Excellent organisational skills.
- A genuine passion for community and inclusion.
- High professional standards and attention to detail.
What We Offer
- 35-hour full-time week because we believe great coaches deserve a life outside of work.
- A supportive, values-led team.
- Close mentorship from the founders.
- Ongoing professional development.
- Opportunities to shape the future of a growing business.
- A gym you'll be genuinely proud to tell people you work for.
- The chance to make a real difference to people's lives every single day.
Our Values
Everything we do comes back to four simple values:
Kindness.
Inclusivity.
Community.
Impact.
If those words resonate with you, we'd love to hear from you.
This role probably isn't for you if...
- You're motivated primarily by selling PT packages.
- You're looking for a job where you'll simply clock in and clock out.
- You believe coaching is about intimidation rather than encouragement.
- You want to work somewhere that values profit over people.
But if...
You want to coach in a gym where members know each other's names.
Where children, grandparents, athletes and complete beginners all train under the same roof.
Where you'll work alongside founders who are still passionate about coaching.
Where you'll be trusted to lead, supported to grow and encouraged to have a real impact.
Then we'd love to meet you.
To apply, please send your CV and a cover letter telling us why this role excites you and what kind of impact you hope to make at The Project PT.
