Are you an exceptional leader with the vision to inspire and the drive to transform lives?
Birchwood Children’s Services is seeking an ambitious and experienced Headteacher to lead our specialized Special Educational Needs (SEN) school in Warrington. This is a unique opportunity to take the helm of a dedicated school community, shaping its strategic direction and ensuring that our pupils—who face complex learning and emotional barriers—receive a world-class, nurturing education.
As Headteacher, you will hold ultimate accountability for the school's educational, operational, and financial success. You will champion a culture of high expectations, deep empathy, and robust safeguarding, leading a multi-disciplinary team to unlock every child's full potential.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership: Define and deliver a clear, inspiring vision for the school's growth, development, and educational outcomes.
- Curriculum & Quality: Oversee the design and implementation of a bespoke, trauma-informed curriculum that effectively fulfills Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs).
- Staff Empowerment: Inspire, manage, and hold accountable a talented team of teachers, support staff, and therapists, fostering an environment of continuous professional growth.
- Community & Partnerships: Act as the primary ambassador for the school, building strong relationships with parents, local authorities, commissioners, and external agencies.
- Safeguarding & Compliance: Maintain a gold-standard safeguarding culture, ensuring strict compliance with all regulatory and statutory frameworks.
What We Are Looking For
- Proven Leadership: Significant, demonstrable experience as a Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher, or senior leader within an SEN, SEMH, or specialist education setting.
- Values-Driven Vision: A deep commitment to holistic, child-centered education that celebrates progress in emotional regulation and life skills just as much as academic attainment.
- Operational Expertise: Strong business acumen with experience managing school budgets, resources, and regulatory inspections.
- Resilience & Empathy: An inspiring communicator who leads with emotional intelligence, maintaining a calm, reassuring presence under pressure.
- Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is required. An NPQH (National Professional Qualification for Headship) is highly desirable.
