Payroll Manager/Senior

We are a progressive and distinguished firm of Chartered Certified Accountants and Chartered Tax Advisors based in Newton Abbot. Despite being a close-knit team, we have a strong and growing presence across South Devon and beyond, with a diverse client base spanning a wide range of industries.
We are seeking an experienced Payroll Manager/Senior to manage a small portfolio of payroll clients. We would anticipate approximately 2-3 days per week to cover this work but would also consider a candidate seeking additional days up to full-time with the role being supplemented by other accounts related tasks within the firm.
We are open to candidates at different stages of their career—whether you are an experienced payroll professional seeking a part-time position or seeking a full-time position with the opportunity to diversify with full support within a growing firm.
The Role:
You will be responsible for the payroll offering for the the firm, managing a small but diverse portfolio of payroll clients.
- Managing the payroll workflow and liaising with clients for hours / days etc.
- Providing support to clients as required in respect of holiday queries, statutory payments etc.
- Integrating with the wider team to support with payroll specific queries.
- Processing the payroll, RTI and Auto-Enrolment Pensions information.
- Working with partners to suggest improvements and drive efficiencies.
- Acting as the main point of contact for payroll clients and maintaining relationships.
- For full-time applicants, assisting other team members with VAT, MTD, accounts and tax assignments
About You:
- Qualified by experience with a background in payroll / accountancy practice.
- Proficient in payroll software and other office applications such as Word and Excel.
- A confident communicator with strong client-facing skills.
- Experience of looking after a small portfolio of clients / managing payroll.
- Experience in accounts preparation if seeking a hybrid role.
