About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Senior Residential Support Worker to join our dynamic team. In this vital role, you will provide high-quality care and support to children and young people in a residential setting, fostering a safe, nurturing, and empowering environment. Your leadership skills will help guide junior staff, develop personalised care plans, and ensure that each young person’s individual needs are met with compassion and professionalism. This position offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people while working within a supportive and vibrant team.
Every day is different, and your role may include supporting children with education, attending appointments, participating in activities, developing life skills, promoting positive routines and helping create lasting memories. You will also be responsible for directly supervising and guiding support workers, leading shifts, and supporting the Registered Manager and Deputy Manager in delivering exceptional care.
Responsibilities
- Lead shifts, ensuring the home operates safely, effectively and in line with company policies, Children's Homes Regulations (2015) and Quality Standards.
- Provide leadership, guidance and day-to-day support to Residential Support Workers, promoting high standards of care and professional practice.
- Allocate tasks, monitor staff performance and ensure all duties, records and handovers are completed accurately and on time.
- Mentor and support new and existing staff, leading by example and promoting a positive team culture.
- Build positive, therapeutic relationships with children and provide consistent, nurturing care that promotes their safety, wellbeing and independence.
- Implement and review care plans, risk assessments and behaviour support strategies, ensuring these are followed consistently by the team.
- Respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns, incidents and challenging behaviour, using therapeutic and de-escalation approaches where possible.
- Complete and oversee accurate documentation, including daily records, incident reports and medication records.
- Support children to attend education, appointments, family time and activities that promote positive outcomes.
- Carry out health and safety checks and report any concerns promptly to maintain a safe home environment.
- Support the Registered Manager and Deputy Manager in maintaining compliance with Ofsted requirements and driving continuous improvement.
- Participate in training, supervision and team meetings, demonstrating professionalism and acting as a positive role model at all times.

Essential:
- Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent)
- Previous experience working in a children's residential setting.
- Experience supporting children with emotional and behavioural needs.
- Good understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
- Strong communication and report-writing skills.
- Ability to lead shifts and support other staff members.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable:
- Willing to complete Level 4/Level 5 Diploma (If not already achieved)
- Experience with trauma-informed practice, PACE or therapeutic approaches.
- Experience as a Shift Leader or Senior Residential Support Worker.
