Oakwood Care Centre Ltd is looking for a passionate, reliable, and experienced Chef/Cook to join our friendly team. If you enjoy preparing nutritious, home-cooked meals and want to make a real difference in the lives of older people, we'd love to hear from you.
As our Chef/Cook, you will be responsible for planning, preparing, and serving high-quality meals that meet the dietary, nutritional, and personal preferences of our residents while maintaining the highest standards of food hygiene and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and prepare nutritious, well-balanced meals in consultation with residents and the Registered Manager.
- Cater for special dietary requirements, including textured modified diets where required.
- Prepare and serve breakfast, lunch, evening meals, and refreshments in a timely manner.
- Maintain high standards of food hygiene, cleanliness, and kitchen safety in line with current legislation.
- Order food supplies, manage stock effectively, and work within agreed budgets.
- Monitor food storage and temperature records, ensuring full compliance with food safety regulations.
- Ensure all kitchen equipment is used safely and report any faults promptly.
- Support and supervise catering staff, assisting with induction, training, and development where appropriate.
- Promote the wellbeing, dignity, and independence of our residents through person-centred catering.
About You
We're looking for someone who has:
- Previous experience as a Chef or Cook, ideally within a care home, healthcare, or similar environment.
- A recognised catering qualification (City & Guilds, NVQ/RQF Diploma, HNC, or equivalent) is desirable.
- Knowledge of special dietary requirements and modified texture diets.
- A good understanding of food hygiene legislation and HACCP procedures.
- Experience managing food budgets and stock control.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills.
- A caring, compassionate, and professional attitude.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
