We are seeking an experienced Welder / Fabricator to join our growing manufacturing team. This is a hands-on role focused on the fabrication of commercial vehicle chassis and associated structures. The successful candidate will be capable of producing high-quality welded assemblies from engineering drawings while maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety.
This is not a trainee position unless significant industrial experience has been achieved.
Required Knowledge & Skills
(Desirable, not all essential)
· Experience: Approximately 5 years' experience within heavy fabrication, commercial vehicle manufacturing, or similar industries.
· Education: NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, Apprenticeship or equivalent in Fabrication & Welding preferred.
· Welding Processes: Proficient in MIG/MAG welding, Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW), and MMA (Stick) welding.
· Materials: Experience welding carbon steel sections ranging from 3mm to 20mm thickness.
· Welding Positions: Competent in 1F–4F fillet welds and 1G–4G groove welds.
· Engineering Drawings: Ability to accurately interpret fabrication drawings, welding symbols and assembly instructions.
· Fabrication: Experience using fabrication equipment including band saws, drills, grinders and magnetic drills.
· Quality: Able to produce welds to a consistently high standard with an understanding of visual inspection requirements.
· Industry Background: Commercial vehicles, heavy engineering, agricultural, defence or similar industries desirable.
· Other: Full UK driving licence desirable.
Roles & Responsibilities
Reporting to the Manufacturing Manager, you will:
· Fabricate commercial vehicle chassis, sub-assemblies and structural components from engineering drawings.
· Perform MIG/MAG, Flux Cored and MMA welding to company and customer quality standards.
· Assemble fabricated components ensuring dimensional accuracy and correct alignment.
· Carry out self-inspection of completed work prior to release for further manufacture.
· Work with Engineering to resolve fabrication issues and suggest continuous improvements.
· Support prototype and development builds where required.
· Maintain welding equipment and ensure tools are kept in a safe and serviceable condition.
· Comply with Quality, Health & Safety and Environmental procedures.
· Maintain a clean and organised work area using 5S principles.
· Support apprentices and less experienced team members where appropriate.
