Yard Picker / Recycling Operative – RIG Roseland

Role Overview: We are looking for a reliable and hardworking Yard Picker / Recycling Operative to join our team at RIG Roseland. The role will involve working within a busy recycling and waste processing yard, helping to sort and recover recyclable materials, operate the picking line, and assist with the safe and efficient running of the site. The successful candidate will also be required to operate various items of plant and machinery, including telehandlers, balers and other site equipment, where trained and authorised.
Key Responsibilities
- Sorting recyclable materials and removing contamination from waste streams.
- Working safely and efficiently on the recycling picking line.
- Separating materials such as plastics, cardboard, metals and other recyclable products.
- Operating telehandlers to move, load and organise materials around the site.
- Operating balers and assisting with the production, storage and movement of baled materials.
- Operating other plant and machinery as required, subject to appropriate training and competency.
- Keeping the picking line, yard and working areas clean and tidy.
- Carrying out basic daily checks on plant and equipment before use.
- Reporting defects, breakdowns or safety concerns to the Site Manager or Supervisor.
- Assisting with general yard duties and site housekeeping.
- Following site traffic management procedures and keeping pedestrian and plant movements safe.
- Working with other site operatives to maximise recycling recovery and site productivity.
- Following all company health, safety and environmental procedures.
- Wearing the correct PPE and following site rules at all times.
Skills & Experience
Previous experience within a recycling, waste, agricultural, quarrying or industrial environment would be beneficial but is not essential. Experience operating plant and machinery is desirable, particularly:
- Telehandlers
- Balers
- Loading or material-handling equipment
Relevant plant tickets would be advantageous, although training may be provided for the right candidate.

Physical Requirements
The role involves manual work, including standing for extended periods, sorting materials and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Pay: £13.00 per hour
