This advertisement is not just about stereotypical care!
You do not need to be a stereotypical care worker. You do not need any previous experience in providing physical support to assist me with my daily life. I simply need physical assistance with everyday tasks; I have full cognitive function. Although you may need to occasionally use your own initiative with household tasks under my discretion and direction, I make my own decisions regarding my own life. This advert involves providing me with physical assistance (under my direction) to empower me to live my best life. I instruct you how to carry out tasks and you carry them out to the best of your ability.
What my interests are:
- Cleanliness, Organisation, Skincare & fashion.
- Nature, Space, Business, Books, Car Boot Sales, Law & Science documentaries.
- Having high quality things & embracing aesthetics (I love organised spaces and tidy aesthetics!).
- I enjoy talking about politics, philosophy, science, psychology, sociology, football, music (across all genres - hip-hop, Indie & rock). I love deep conversations about almost anything! Let's trauma dump!
- I also love food! Nom, Nom, Nom....
- Ambition and self-improvement, taking control of my life.
- Woodland walks, villages and country houses.
What personality traits & characteristics I’m looking for:
- No prior experience needed; I can instruct you on how to help me out and any other tasks I need completed. I prefer people who can memorise my daily routine and how I like things completed without needing to be prompted.
- Respect, Attentiveness, Emotional Intelligence & Understanding.
- Someone willing to assist me to the best of their ability, eventually fostering a friendship in the process.
- Understanding the importance of carrying out tasks to maintain my lifestyle, including assistance with toileting.
- A good sense of humour; I'm not easily offended. I have a dark sense of humour, if this is something you may struggle with, then this may not be the role for you.
- Refraining from certain terminology that can be a trigger for me (stereotypical care terminology).
- Someone who enjoys deep discussions about our world when I'm not busy working.
- Someone who understands what I need and when to take a step back to allow me space and maintain my independence when required (needs to recognise social cues and to be able to read the room, understanding what I want from my physical support, including public perceptions of my disability, which is why I refrain from stereotypical care terminology).
I’m a down to earth guy, who is easy to chat to. I’m not your typical Physics student! Although I may have some nerdy characteristics. I’m not a full nerd! I will not bore you to sleep with physics equations, unless you want to hear about them! Ha-ha-ha! I am a hyper- competitive person and will win at almost anything! I am currently looking to pursue a long-term career in Law after obtaining my Masters in Physics.
Compatibility is key, you should be capable of carrying out tasks independently to maintain organisation and cleanliness in my home and assist me in various aspects of my life to maximise productivity.
The role, in essence, involves acting as my hands, as I'm unable to perform physical tasks due to Spinal Muscular Atrophy (type 2). Tasks will include cooking, dressing, personalised support (toileting) and driving (essential).
Flexibility is required, especially for covering holidays and absences of other PAs and occasional travel may be an aspect of this role. However, commitment to a shift pattern is the primary requirement. Reliability and regular attendance is crucial to this role in order for me to live my best life.
If this sounds like something you'd thrive at and enjoy, I'd love to hear from you! You'll operate under my direction to provide the necessary physical assistance, always prioritising my requests and acting upon my directives. Handling physical tasks such as hoisting, pushing, pulling and bending is expected, but being physically strong isn't a prerequisite, good overall health, stamina and ensuring we have a connection are what matter most to me.
