UCL Careers provides a ‘core’ service for all students as well as ‘local’ careers support for faculties and departments. Such local support is managed by three careers teams that work with faculty groupings. One of these groupings is ‘Life and Medical Sciences’ (LMS) consisting of The Faculties of Life Sciences, Medical Sciences, Population Health Sciences and Brain Sciences.
UCL’s Life and Medical Sciences faculties constitute one of the largest and most prestigious groupings of academics in biomedical, life and population health sciences in the UK. As of 2025 these faculties had a combined total of over 5,000 undergraduate students and over 6,000 taught post-graduate students. Subjects range from undergraduate degrees in psychology, pharmacy and biochemistry to a highly diverse range of specialist postgraduate degrees in areas such as human genetics, drug development, public health nutrition, global health and cognitive neuroscience.
The Careers Consultant will be one of a team of four Careers Consultants, and a two-strong Work-Related Learning Team, developing and delivering careers education programmes to the students across the four Life and Medical Sciences faculties.
Careers consultant–led educational activities include delivering small- and large‑group teaching (online and in person) to develop careers related knowledge and employability skills, faculty specific careers appointments and some departmental / faculty level events provision. Strategic and administrative duties include planning an annual programme with academic and support staff, contributing to educational meetings, marketing careers provision, and managing an online platform (Moodle).
In addition, the Careers Consultant will deliver on some of our central service provision, including 1:1 careers guidance appointments open to all UCL students, and recent alumni, and work collaboratively on a range of central projects.
