Overview
We are seeking a motivated and reliable Deck Hand Crew Member to join our maritime team. This role involves supporting vessel operations, ensuring safety standards are maintained, and assisting with daily tasks on board. The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in maritime activities, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Previous experience is advantageous but not essential, as training will be provided. This position offers an excellent opportunity to develop skills within the maritime industry while contributing to safe and efficient vessel operations.
Duties
- Assisting with mooring and unmooring vessels, ensuring secure docking procedures
- Supporting crew members with cargo handling and stowage tasks
- Conducting routine maintenance and cleaning of deck equipment and surfaces
- Debris clearance of flotsum in waterways
- Basic vegetation maintenance, using hedge trimmers and strimmers
- Monitoring safety equipment and reporting any defects or hazards
- Participating in safety drills and adhering to all safety protocols at all times
- Assisting with navigation support tasks as directed by senior crew members
- Ensuring the deck area remains organised, clean, and free of hazards
- Supporting the crew during voyage operations, including lookout duties when required
Skills
- Good physical fitness with the ability to perform manual tasks in a marine environment
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and adhere to safety procedures
- Basic knowledge of maritime safety standards is desirable but not essential
- Willingness to learn new skills and undertake training programmes
- Prior experience in a similar role or maritime environment is a plus but not mandatory
