About the Role
Luxe Africa Rail Travel UK Ltd is looking for an experienced, commercially aware and editorially accomplished Destination Content Strategy Manager to lead the planning, development and governance of content covering luxury rail journeys, tailor-made holidays and premium travel experiences across Africa.
The successful candidate will define the company’s destination-content strategy, oversee editorial calendars and ensure that website pages, itineraries, travel guides, campaigns and sales materials are accurate, engaging and aligned with commercial priorities.
Working closely with travel consultants, product managers, marketing specialists, reservations teams and international tourism partners, the manager will translate destination knowledge and customer insights into content that strengthens brand authority, supports organic growth and improves travel enquiries and bookings.
The role is suitable for an experienced travel-content or publishing professional with strong strategic, editorial and team-leadership capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and manage the company’s destination-content strategy
- Align editorial priorities with commercial and product objectives
- Develop annual and quarterly content roadmaps
- Manage editorial calendars across website, email, social and print channels
- Identify priority destinations, routes and travel products for content development
- Lead content planning for luxury rail journeys and tailor-made holidays
- Oversee the production of destination guides and travel features
- Manage content for hotels, lodges, excursions and cultural experiences
- Ensure day-by-day itineraries are clear, accurate and commercially effective
- Develop standards for pre-departure information and practical travel guidance
- Establish and maintain the company’s editorial tone of voice
- Ensure content reflects the expectations of premium travellers
- Review and approve high-value destination and campaign content
- Maintain consistency across digital and printed materials
- Manage content updates when schedules, services or requirements change
- Oversee fact-checking, proofreading and editorial quality assurance
- Create governance processes for content review and approval
- Maintain editorial templates, checklists and style guidance
- Coordinate destination-content projects from briefing to publication
- Assign work to writers, editors and external contributors
- Manage freelance writers, translators and specialist content partners
- Provide editorial feedback, coaching and development
- Set deadlines, priorities and performance expectations
- Monitor workloads and ensure content is delivered on schedule
- Collaborate with product teams on new routes and travel experiences
- Work with travel consultants to understand customer interests
- Partner with marketing teams on campaigns and product launches
- Support sales teams with persuasive destination materials
- Liaise with rail operators, hotels and destination-management companies
- Verify supplier information, inclusions and service details
- Maintain strong relationships with international tourism partners
- Ensure content supports responsible and culturally respectful travel
- Review destination representation for accuracy and sensitivity
- Lead search-engine optimisation planning for destination content
- Identify keyword opportunities and organic-search priorities
- Improve website architecture and destination-content discoverability
- Optimise page titles, headings, metadata and internal links
- Monitor organic traffic, engagement and conversion performance
- Analyse content performance using digital analytics
- Identify high-performing topics and underdeveloped content areas
- Use customer-search and enquiry data to guide future content
- Present content-performance insights to senior stakeholders
- Recommend improvements based on commercial and editorial results
- Support multilingual content planning and translation workflows
- Manage image selection, permissions, credits and usage standards
- Maintain an organised digital content and destination-asset library
- Monitor competitor activity and luxury-travel publishing trends
- Research emerging destinations and new travel experiences
- Manage content budgets and external supplier costs
- Contribute to broader brand and digital-growth initiatives
- Promote continuous improvement across content-development processes
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree or professional qualification in Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Publishing, Travel and Tourism or a related subject
- At least five years of experience in travel content, publishing, tourism marketing or digital editorial work
- Experience managing destination or travel-content strategies
- Strong portfolio of high-quality travel or lifestyle content
- Proven experience managing editorial calendars and content programmes
- Experience leading writers, editors or external contributors
- Excellent written English and advanced editing skills
- Strong proofreading, fact-checking and quality-control capabilities
- Ability to balance editorial quality with commercial objectives
- Experience managing website and digital-content projects
- Strong understanding of customer journeys and travel-planning behaviour
- Experience using content-management systems
- Practical knowledge of search-engine optimisation
- Experience using analytics to measure content performance
- Ability to interpret data and turn insights into editorial priorities
- Strong project-management and organisational skills
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and stakeholders
- Excellent presentation and communication skills
- Confidence working with senior internal and external stakeholders
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy

Preferred Experience
- Previous experience with a luxury tour operator or specialist travel company
- Detailed knowledge of Southern or Eastern African destinations
- Familiarity with Rovos Rail, the Blue Train or similar rail services
- Experience developing content for safari and premium-hospitality products
- Knowledge of tailor-made holiday planning
- Experience with WordPress or another enterprise content-management system
- Familiarity with Google Analytics 4 and Google Search Console
- Experience using SEO research and content-optimisation platforms
- Knowledge of conversion-focused content strategy
- Experience managing multilingual content
- French-language proficiency
- Knowledge of another European or African language
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud or Canva
- Experience producing brochures and printed travel publications

Pay: £39,000.00-£55,000.00 per year
