Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and hardworking Yard Operative to join our team. The successful candidate will play an important role in maintaining the safe and efficient operation of our yard, ensuring materials are handled correctly and the site remains organised and productive.
Duties
- Carry out routine yard duties to maintain a safe, clean and organised working environment.
- Assist with the loading, unloading, sorting and movement of materials.
- Identify and separate materials where required, following company procedures.
- Operate yard equipment and machinery safely and efficiently, in line with training and site regulations.
- Conduct basic equipment checks and report any defects, damage or maintenance requirements.
- Support stock control and material handling activities as required.
- Work closely with colleagues to ensure daily operational targets are achieved.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping throughout the yard and work areas.
- Adhere to all health, safety and environmental procedures.
Requirements
- Previous experience working in a yard, recycling, waste management, manufacturing or industrial environment is desirable.
- Basic knowledge of non-ferrous and ferrous metals would be advantageous but is not essential.
- Experience operating a Forklift Truck (FLT) is preferred; relevant licences are beneficial.
- Ability to carry out manual handling and physical work safely.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
- Good communication skills and a positive team-working attitude.
- Flexible approach to work and willingness to undertake a variety of tasks as required.
