Overview
This is not standard breakdown recovery. As a Police Recovery Driver, you are a crucial part of law enforcement support, responding to crime scenes, road traffic collisions, and abandoned vehicles. You will be operating a specialized HGV recovery vehicle fitted with HIAB crane equipment to lift, load, and secure vehicles in challenging, high-pressure, or forensic environments. The position requires a proactive, responsible individual with excellent organisational abilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Specialist Recovery: Carry out HIAB services to support our extensive client bank
- Operational Excellence: Operate slide beds, spec-lifts, and HIAB equipment to lift/remove vehicles, ensuring no further damage is caused.
- Police Procedures: Safely recover and transport vehicles involved in accidents, crime, or illegal parking, often using HIAB crane units. Adhere to strict police protocols, including forensic integrity procedures, logging evidence, and completing accurate documentation for seized vehicles.
- Roadside Safety: Work safely in high-traffic environments, adhering to Health & Safety legislation and company, police, and highway agency policies.
- Customer Service: Act as a calm, professional representative of the company when dealing with members of the public during stressful situations.
- Vehicle Maintenance: Conduct daily walkaround checks, ensure HIAB equipment is maintained, and report any defects immediately.
Requirements
- License: Valid UK HGV Class 2 Licence (Class 1 advantageous).
- Certification: Valid HIAB/Lorry Mounted Crane certificate (ALLMI/CPCS) is essential.
- Experience: Proven experience in vehicle recovery and operating HIAB equipment, ideally within the police or vehicle recovery sector. The ability to work under pressure in potentially challenging environments while maintaining professionalism and safety standards. This role offers a vital service within the community, requiring a dedicated professional committed to safety, efficiency, and excellence in vehicle recovery operations.
- Compliance: Valid Driver CPC and Digital Tachograph Card.
- Vetting: Possess and/or Ability to pass a comprehensive Police Check (Background/CRB).
- Flexibility: Prepared to work nights, weekends, and bank holidays as part of a 24/7 rota.

Pay: £33,120.00-£35,328.00 per year
