Job Overview
We are seeking to recruit a Medical Receptionist/Administrator to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will serve as the first point of contact for patients, providing exceptional customer service while managing administrative tasks efficiently. This role is crucial in ensuring the smooth operation of our medical practice and maintaining a welcoming environment for all patients.
Duties
- Greet patients and visitors warmly, ensuring a positive first impression.
- Manage patient check in and check out processes, including verifying personal information.
- Schedule appointments and maintain an organised calendar for clinical staff.
- Answer phone calls promptly, addressing enquiries or directing calls to the appropriate personnel.
- Maintain patient records accurately and confidentially in compliance with data protection regulations.
- Process incoming correspondence, including emails and postal mail, ensuring timely responses.
- Assist with payment processing as required.
- Support the management and processing of patient referrals.
- Undertake clinical coding and administrative coding tasks as appropriate.
- Collaborate with medical staff to ensure efficient patient flow and effective communication within the practice.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
- Previous experience in an administrative, customer service, or office based role.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with a friendly and professional demeanour.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- A keen eye for detail and commitment to maintaining accurate patient records.
- Ability to work well under pressure while maintaining a calm and professional approach.
- Commitment to patient confidentiality and adherence to ethical standards in healthcare.
- Flexibility to provide additional cover when required.
Desirable:
- Previous experience working within an NHS GP Practice or a similar healthcare setting.
- Knowledge and experience of NHS referral processes.
- Experience using EMIS Web clinical systems.
- Experience of clinical coding and medical terminology.
- Understanding of NHS services and primary care operations.
